Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
If the Rams are truly involved then we have no shot. Snead has no problem trading his picks like they don’t matter
This. The Rams understand that picks are just potential and have no problem securing actual talent for them instead of hoping guys pan out. And it's worked out for the better part of a decade at this point. We hold onto them like they are gold and don't even get much out of them

The Rams didn't lose the Superbowl because they lacked WRs. If anything they should be investing in that defense.

Giving away high picks when you already have 2 of the best receivers in the league would be silly. Puka Nakua alone put up an incredible 1,715 yards and 10 TDs.

Let's also factor in that the Rams will be direct competitors to the Eagles in the NFC and I think this trade is less likely as long as the Patriots don't get completely blown out of the water in terms of trade compensation.

I wouldn't mind Goedert one bit, he's a really good player, and I'd have to go looking for issues with him.
$ Would probably be an issue, but he's good imo, I thought so before his TD Blowup this year (11).

Philly is scrambling to keep Goedert.

Yup, he's a fkn good player, without drama.

Pass on Goedert. We should be looking to get younger....not more 30+ year olds who's on the decline. Plus his name annoys me.

1) they acquired arguably the two best CBs that changed teams this offseason, one via trade and one via free agency

2) they lost out on SB because they scored less points than SEA. Both sides of the ball play into that.

Sure, defense was their weaker unit in the big games but you have to improve with what’s available. You can only sign or trade for or draft the best players available.

We lost the first Giants Super Bowl 17-14. Sure, giving up 17 is better than only scoring 14, but if we only gave up 13 we would have won. Opposite with the a PHI Super Bowl loss where we scored a crap ton but still if we had managed to score a crap ton + 7 we would have won. Wins count the same even if one side of the ball carried the other.

This is going down this weekend. Dallas Goedert’s contract is scheduled to void which will accelerate $20.93 million of unamortized bonus money into the 26 cap. Extending Goedert’s deal before it voids would allow the $20.93 m to be amortized over the length of the Goedert’s extension creating enough cap space to swallow the additional charge of $20.55 million charges to the Eagles’26 by trading Brown pre-June 1st. Just hope he’s traded to the Pats and not the Rams.

Void date was pushed to Monday according to NFLTR. Just read it.

Now, can this thread die until after the Draft since Brown isn't going to be moved before June 1st?
What are today's and the June 1 deadlines?

I worry Elliot Wolf loses out on the obvious trade and another team sneaks in and gets AJ either now or after June 1.
I have zero confidence in his ability to get a challenging trade done. He is very passive and risk averse.

This is where I’m at. I’m already moved on to the reality that Boutte is the Pats WR1 this season or Doubs, none of the WRs will sniff 1000 yards and Drake Maye will have to have a repeat of his MVP caliber season for them to get the 3rd or 4th seed.

I expect AJ to either be an Eagle or a Ram.

I don;t consider it a loss if we don't get Brown. I also want our FO to stand ground and not give in to the asking price if they feel its too much.

You sound like you are willing to give Philly whatever they want, doesn't make sense to me.

He's not the sole decider in the room.

He’s not going to the Rams, they won’t trade him to a contender in the same conference.

I don't see Boutte as #1 here.
No enough volume and while he can make plays downfield, he's not a consistent downfield seperator to have an Alec Piece like stat line.
If we went with the status quo (which I don't think we will), Doubs would be #1 just by sheer volume.
And Maye won't have to repeat his 2025 season for us to get to the 3 or 4 seed.
We are setting up to be a better running team, smartly.
By season end our rushing O was decent, but it was deplorable for the first half of the season.
If we don't land Brown, we will be adding at least 1 WR in the draft, probably in the first 3 rds if I had to guess.
I would much rather be a team the runs the ball well and spreads the ball around, than one dependant on a 1500 yard WR that everyone seems to crave.
FA started 4 days ago, the draft is over a month away. Our roster will change between now and Sept, not sure why we're making grand proclamations on what our roster will be today, when there is still so much of the offseason yet to go.

What do you mean by Alec Pierce-like stat line?

Boutte was at 17 YPC. While Pierce is at 20 Ypc.

But Boutte's target rate is 70% while Pierce's is 50%.

This year Pierce has a lot more targets for 47 catches than in prior years (while Boutte missed games for 2 different injuries).

But if you compare the number of catches for their 2nd and 3rd years, Pierce had a combined 69 while Boutte had 76.

I don't think their numbers are that far off though certainly Pierce's yards this year were more impressive.

I know the stats.
I've watched them both play plenty.
Boutte doesn't consistently separate downfield like Pierce, he just doesn't. He can separate at times, just not consistently.
I like Boutte, like him on our team, but he won't ever be a high volume WR. Pierce was over 21 yds per in 2025, over 22 in 2024. Would be great if Boutte can get to that yds/per, but I don't see it.
I sincerely hope he proves me wrong, but I don't see him topping 1000 yds ever.
Again, hope I'm wrong.

What are today's and the June 1 deadlines?
March 13th, 3rd day of the league year, is the day that Brown receives his option bonus.

June 1st is the day that players can be cut/traded and the remaining amortization hits in the coming year instead of the current year. So, if Brown is traded after June 1st, any signing bonus proration that would normally be accelerated in to 2026, would hit 2027 instead. Much the same way a June 1st Cut designation occurs.
