Patriots Player Departure Anfernee Jennings released

I'm a bit confused by this move. I like addition by subtraction, but this seems like subtraction.
And why leave it to now? If they were going to release Jennings, why not do it earlier? What has changed?

They may have tried to trade him to the Ravens for a true Triple-Headed Monster Pass Rush but now...

Younger and cheaper ?better

Hopefully so
Usually yo do not get younger and cheaper through free agency and keeping aging vets

Vrabel keeping his word on younger and cheaper

Odd trend continues of cutting players who are decent depth options at positions they don't have depth at for immaterial cap space they don't really have an immediate need for - both Jennings and Tavai. Vrabel doing right by guys I guess to not string them along, but feels like our depth is weaker than it could be right now.

Worst EDGE room in the NFL?

Two things need to be true:

1. There's a plan to make at least two additions.

or

2. They're really high on Ponder and Swinson.

Ponder improved as the season went on. If that trajectory continues he could be solid and take Jenning's snaps (I think there were even games that Ponder had more snaps).

Like others here, I'm confused and suspect something has to be coming.
Chaisson signed for low-mid money elsewhere.
Jennings wasn't expensive.
Tavai wasn't expensive.

Don't get me wrong: I think Jones is better than either of the edge guys - best traits of both and he's bigger and more violent.

But we've watched a couple of top LBs go for middling money. Something's coming.

Tavai actually sucks though.

I don't agree with that - too strong. But yeah, that Pats' LB corps could be upgraded. I'm still stunned they didn't go hard after Lloyd or Chenal (I'm biased - loved Lloyd's game an Chenal was a binkie in the draft)...but they've earned a bit of trust, yes?

So, we'll see.

Damn, i like jennings but hopefully that means they are setting up for a big move at edge, just who?
me too. thought he played well. The team is certainly not sitting on its laurels.

Right, im okay with it if we are going to be aggressively pursuing help at the position. Sort of the boat i was in with diggs release and the wr situation

This is perplexing considering that Jennings was the best at setting the edge and, when the Pats had guys go down on the D-line late in the season during games, Jennings stepped in and played some DT.

Guess that means I can kiss any hope of Rodriguez in the draft goodbye.

Aside from Chaisson, we were told very early on that Vrabel was going to get rid of of BB's "tweener" and "entitled guys". This is the 2nd wave of that.

Nobody should miss Tavai playing along the edge for whatever reason only to lose track of the ball carrier going to the outside.

Jennings had some value setting the edge, but the Pats saw more value in the cap savings. He was a terrible pass rusher getting a sack every 323 snaps. They want to give more time to Ponder, Swinson or whoever else they get in the draft. It's time to move on.

Chaisson was widely overrated on this board, especially in the playoffs.

I agree…they didn’t let go of Jennings, Tavai and Chaisson with no plan in mind. There has to be a move coming besides just the draft and our current players stepping up.
