Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
If they make a 20 game season with world games I believe Kraft is in. Last year feelings are not this years reality.

Last years front office is this years front office. IF you have anything to back up your contention that Kraft shut off the $$ feel free to show it, otherwise it's just another sad sack Patriots fan crying woe is me because negativity is all they know.

I honestly really hope he signs with the Pats because your crash out is going to be pretty bad if not.

Not at all, I'm confident this front office has more than one plan for the offseason. They aren't counting on any one piece falling into place. You on the other hand have repeatedly ignored what the player himself has said for what you would do if you were in his place. But it's not surprising, the unfortunate reality is that the Patriots have the most negative fan base in football. I'm sure some of it is driven by those who listen to assholes like Felger every day, but the rest just comes from people who will never be happy no matter what they do, and who always look for the dark cloud to piss all over everyone. A great example of this was all of the fans who loved how Maye played until they lost to Buffalo, and then **** all over him.

Also the only thing we really know about Pierce is that it’s been consistently said if all things were equal he’d go back to Indy. Now this all started because I said as a 26 year old most of the time it made sense that a 26 year old with money would choose LA over Massachusetts. Does that mean he’ll choose LA? No.

But again for the sake of the board I really hope he signs here tomorrow.

You don't want the Patriots to sign Pierce, your posts have made that abundantly clear.

No I would be fine with it. I prefer Brown but Pierce is a fine fall back. Just because I prefer one option doesn’t mean I would reject the backup plan. It’s more risky but he’s also a clear upgrade. The only WR I said I didn’t want was Doubs.

Eh I’m not reading all this. Congratulations or I’m sorry.

Kraft has clearly given the control of the roster to Vrabel, he's not making decisions on who to pay. Last season he laid out a huge amount in free agency, and there is absolutely no indication he is going to undercut Vrabel, if anything they have been clearing cap space to go hard at free agency again this season.
I think Kraft lays out basic rules on spending - something along the lines of "spend X amount relative to the cap; if you go over that in a year, make up the difference over the next 1-2 years." Beyond that, there's his general preference against signing players with very clear domestic abuse issues. Otherwise I don't think Kraft is very involved at all and lets Vrabel and Wolf do what need to be done.

How many other NFL fan bases have you polled? If you cared to venture out of your Boston-area media bubble you'd know this isn't true, not by a long shot.

I imagine it's less cap and more the cash spending that Kraft sets a limit on. And that's not to say he's cheap, but it's impossible to run a business and not base it on cash in and out.

I think that's pretty accurate, but I also think he's deferring to Vrabel and Cowden as they rebuild the team from the worst roster in football to a consistent title contender.

I think there's a fundamental difference in what we want them to do. I want them to get younger and build for the long term, and it seems like you want them to bring in older player, which would seem to indicate that you are more focused on next season.

My crashout's going to be pretty bad if he does. Paying #1 WR money to a guy who had 47 catches last year is just Donald Hayes territory. I'm all set.

True. I’m just looking at it as when Maye/Gonzo start taking up a ton of cap that’s when you really focus on cycling out vets for youth. I don’t have faith that Maye is going to play ball like Brady did. So if I had the option of Brown for two years or Pierce for two years I’d take Brown. I can’t see them being able to pay either once Maye’s extension kicks in.

I mean…he isn’t Donald Hayes. I get what you’re saying but he’s a good WR that had Daniel Jones and Philip Rivers throwing to him. Maye throws a great deep ball, he’s a deep ball threat. Makes sense to me.

Even if he's a 'good' WR, he's not Justin Jefferson. He shouldn't command anything in that neighborhood, he's not that receiver. Imagine paying him 28 mil a year and he goes 3 games without a catch.

Sorry, this isn't a guy you pay #1 money to:

He’s not Brown or Jefferson but you can’t deny he’d be an upgrade over what the Pats currently have. I agree, not worth 30 million but I’m also not going to be pissed if they upgrade a position. Especially taking into account that they’ll have to deal with the reality soon of Boutte getting a new deal or a trade somewhere.

Is he an upgrade over Diggs? Who you just cut for less money?

If AJ Brown is the play, I don't love it, but I get it. Alec Pierce makes no goddamn sense. We have Alec Pierce at home.

They don’t though. This is like the claims last year to not sign Diggs because Pop was Diggs at home. They do lack a deep threat. Pierce is better than Boutte by a mile. But obviously you go with Brown over him.
