NFL News The Bears appear to be moving to Indiana

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
Should take an idea from the New England Patriots and rename Great Lakes Bears

Would be a terrible thing to happen to Chicago.

No way an Indiana based team would allow itself to be labeled Chicago. Not gonna happen.
People from "the region", in other words the Indiana suburbs of Chicago, identify more with Chicago than with the bulk of farm-belt deep red state Indiana. Not saying it's good or bad, just that it is the way it is.

Will they be the Wolf Lake Bears or Indiana Bears ?
Drive from Chicago is similar to drive from Boston to Foxboro. So follow the regional naming style of the New England Patriots.

Upper Midwest Bears.

Or maybe just “Midwest Bears”

Because UP Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin are really the Upper Midwest.

Then why today is there more smoke of moving to Indiana?

The Bears bought a huge tract of land... It was a very ambitious project...

Soldier Field Renovation Timeline - Illinois Sports Facilities Authority (ISFA)

Seems like a money grab to me, they have a renovation that feels more recent than the 2002-03 timeline. Not sure why they have to bail after spending a boatload of money to fix up the old place.

It totally is. They want a multi-use campus so they can make money outside of what is sharable through the NFL's profit-sharing model. They're not going to be able to do that where Soldier Field is. Kraft was sort of an innovator there and the Rams owner took that to the next level.

Wolf Lake looks like the same driving distance to Chicago as Boston-Foxborough.

Feels like they'll still call them the Chicago Bears.
Probably but it feels weird with them not being in the same state. Like we don't call them the Boston Patriots anymore and Foxborough is in the state.

And yet we don't call them the New Jersey Giants (less said about the Jete the better)

Jersey always acts like it's on par with the other families, but they are glorified crew

Illinois is likely to institute a millionaire tax. Illinois has a 66.40 cent/gallon gas tax, Indiana has a 54.50/gallon gas tax. Illinois income tax is 4.95%, Indiana is 3.00%. Also, there is no inheritance tax in Indiana. The effective property tax rate in Illinois is more than double the effective tax rate in Indiana (1.83 to 0.77). I read Chicago is facing a 1.2B budget deficit. Illinois is going down the toilet thanks to the usual nonsense from its politicians.

It's good to see your dog **** takes don't stop at football.

Indiana : Bears :: Hartford : Patriots

I agree but if Illinois is going to implement a millionaires tax I wonder if the team wants to stay more competitive in FA (less tax for players) by moving 25 minutes outside Chicago. It is a thought I had not considered. I assumed it was a fake negotiating move like Hartford was, but maybe not. There are a lot of reasons to move over the line into Indiana. The drive to Hartford would have changed the fan base demographic, I am not sure 25 minutes outside Chicago does that.

Imagine…two teams in Indiana

Zero in Chicago/Illinois

Another sterile dome ?
