Pats had a fantastic season when most in the media and even fans here thought they'd be among the worst in the league.

The OL and the offense finally got exposed and there was too much to overcome.

The defense played fantastic as long as they could, but it was like the Bart Scott joke earlier this week "We'd give the offense the ball at the opponent's 10 yard line and we'd end up punting".

Milton Williams and the pass rush had a rough night. He and a few others would beat their guy, but they couldn't close the deal and get to Darnold. Would it have made a difference if Williams got 3 sacks tonight like he should of? Probably not.

Christian Gonzalez settled the debate of drafting him or JSN. He played a great game tonight knocking down passes. He's getting paid this offseason.

Craig Woodson was another guy who stood out tonight. He's a willing downhill tackler.

As I stated in the Campbell thread, I'm seriously concerned about him. Prior to his injury, he's got a lower body strength problem that was ignored. He easily gets bull rushed into Maye which pretty much wrecks the play. Moving him to G as many want will not solve that problem. He needs to build strength or work on his technique.

They have to figure out what to do with Jared Wilson because he was awful all season.

Owenu will return at his number because cutting him will create another need on the OL they can't afford.

Rham did his best during the postseason and protected the ball well, but he's just very meh. They need a better bell cow back.

Drake Maye had a great 2nd season and was the runner up to MVP. However, he's got a lot to work on. I've said it before and say it again, he's got the same release speed no matter how fast a defender is coming at him. He always throws it as if he's playing in a 7 on 7. This is what's causing so many strip sacks.

The OL was so bad, the Pats need to seriously consider taking Diggs money at his number and apply it towards the OL. He has a $28M cap number and is owed $23.5M for 2026. That's way too much for a slot guy at his age who barely mustered 1,000 yards in a 17 game season. It's even worse when you break down his biggest games of the season. He's just not the same guy he was in Minnesota or Buffalo who was one of the best man beaters in the league. He's the exact opposite now being dead to rights when anyone mans up on him. I would be shocked if he returns.

Pats need to get more athletic at the TE position. And I'm tired of seeing Henry dropping passes.

Last but not least, the late 2015 game plan by McDaniels was infuriating. Collinsworth sensing early on that the offense was just playing not to lose so the defense could win it made me sick to my stomach. McDaniels has had this problem his entire career either turtling whenever he faces a talented defense or if there's an injury or two on offense.
Great post that summarizes where I’m at, especially on Campbell’s lower body strength issues. There’s no way he cuts it at a position that requires even more strength. Let’s see how a full offseason of pro lifting works out for him.

Hopefully we don't find out Mayes shoulder is an issue and that it needs any surgery and it's just the fatigue uptick from basically never playing more than 12 games to playing 21 and a sprain from the sack in Denver.

If he's still getting shot up for the Super Bowl it's obviously worse than we thought.

If only we could get FCB to do a bet and f.o,.....he is second coming of NEM
Can hardly make a post without ****ting on Josh McDaniels. Tiresome, but he dies seem passionate tbf, but still ....
If I could credit Ian for one thing its the great work his mute function does. You can make posters disappear from the face of the earth here. I did it with Andy. On like 4 different occasions.

Just give him a full block and your experience here will be much better

I’ve felt the thing we have to do for the offense to run best is make explosive plays, get 1st downs on 1st and second down.
But the pass protection has been soooo bad that I’m beginning to think they decided playing good defenses they had to reduce the risk of negative plays, let the D dominate and pick their spots. Not best for putting up points, but maybe best for winning. It worked 3 times, the 4th we just couldn’t get it to click.

Could this have been the gameplan? They thought they could tire out the Seahawks offense and defense and score botched coverage touchdown like against Denver?

If that’s true, what a joke of coaching and game planning that would be. Just hoping the Seahawks would melt down…

Question about Campbell. If he had known lower body strength issues and short arms were a concern, in retrospect was he the right pick at 4?

Yes bc mcdaniels was terrible today and all playoffs outside of two halves

I'm listening to 70s and 80s mixed CDs instead of being mad...I have a Slew of them...
I do this when I get depressed...this is my ****, it fixes me .

I'll be good soon.

I understand, but his posts are like comedy gold but highly frustrating....ok, 5.05 am here, packing it in, great season, poor ending, build on foundational pieces and grow.

I am starting to believe that Maye is a QB who cannot overcome pocket awareness issues. Similar to Mac Jones when he played for the Pats.

We all clearly saw how badly he kept hanging onto the ball throughout the playoffs, just begging for him to toss it away.

I don’t believe the Seahawks were better. I promise you if Maye had just given them great field position from the fumble and interception, the Seahawks be scoreless on both drives.

Maye was the reason the team lost. Maye decided to turn into Cam Newton from Super Bowl 50.

If Maye had just got rid of the ball (even if the we could not convert) it would’ve been a different outcome.
You have to remember many people said Maye was a complete project with huge upside some even said he needed to "sit for 2 years".

He just played in the Super Bowl in his second season, given the jump from year 1 to year 2 i have faith he can make another jump in years 3/4 to being more comfortable in the pocket especially if we fix some of the protection issues.

He definitely looked better in the pocket during the season but got jittery and looked scared to release the ball the last few weeks how much of that was just the pass rush and protection screwing with him?

Things I'm frustrated to admit I'm suspicious people were right about:

* Campbell not being the answer at OT. Allowing the most pressures of any player in any game in the Super Bowl of all ****ing places is a really bad sign. I also don't love how he was looking away and not seeming to pay attention during one of the shots where Vrabel was trying to coach up the OL.

* That our path to the Super Bowl was too easy. This one I'm less sold on because I think we could have won this game if we were more aggressive in making game and position adjustments. Definitely not a given but down by 12 in the third means the game was by no means out of reach.

I guess that's why they call it the blues.

I don't think so. Trading back was the right move. Mason Graham is looking like the best player of the draft though but wouldn't have helped us much this year. Tyler Warren would have really helped.

What a great season, way beyond all expectations.

Defence is championship quality, is in its prime age-wise and will almost certainly remain excellent next year, and 2027.

Offense is a mix of rookies, younger players, and older veterans. Maye, Wilson, Campbell, Boutte, Williams and Henderson are all 24 or younger, Moses, Bradbury, Diggs, Hollins and Henry are all over 31. Very few players in their prime of mid-late 20s. A mix of seasoning and investment is needed both in the draft and FA. The O is probably a few years off its peak.

The biggest takeaway from the last month of playoff football is Jared Wilson is more of a center than a guard and Will Campbell looks small and out of his depth at LT against the good pass rushers.

Drake can get better with playoff experience we've seen countless QBs have elite regular seasons and drop playoff stinkers and come back and play well the next time, you can't learn small arms and built like a guard.
Wilson was a very good center against brutal SEC competition. He can do it well. Interestingly Bradbury wasn’t bad this year. So I understand they were trying to get the best 5 out there… they are just short a really good LT still IMO. And you aren’t getting in at #31.

Not sure there’s one in FA either.

The playoffs with no bye week and Surviving Denver to win the AFC title game was itself an accomplishment to be proud of.

Question about Campbell. If he had known lower body strength issues and short arms were a concern, in retrospect was he the right pick at 4?
Yeah, you have to wonder if WR Tet McMillan would’ve been a better pick, or TE Tyler Warren would’ve been better picks and added an explosive weapon for Drake.

Also, Lowe coming off an injury in 2024, played pretty well for Campbell when he was out. I wonder if a healthy Lowe would’ve been better than Campbell in 2025.

That being said, as I always say about prospects, there is no rule or law stating a player can’t get better. Maybe we see a year two jump from Campbell ?
