Brady and Maye dynamic, a theory:

On the bright side it seems like Peyton Manning has taken a liking to Maye.

Maybe it gets back at Brady a bit, but nice guy to have in your corner.
Hopefully no Superbowl pointers from Manning lol

Tom put Mahomes in his place in 2018 when he went into KC and beat him in the AFCCG. Then again in 2021 when the Bucs humiliated him in the Super Bowl.

Tom can't do that to Maye, because he is retired.

He also might be legit jealous of Maye's deep ball.
That’s another good point. He had the permanent leg up on Mahomes due to the head to head but will never be able to get that with Maye.

I don’t think Brady specifically dislikes Maye but I do think you hit the nail on the head with your last couple sentences. He doesn’t like that Maye is in the big dance in just his second season just like Tom did because that was supposed to be something that only Tom could do. If Maye wins then there will be chatter about if it’s the start of a “new” Patriots dynasty and there will be ever more comparisons to how Maye is doing what Brady did but with an arguably weaker team. Etc, etc.

Tom will NOT like to have someone compared like that to him. It was one thing when it was Mahomes because it’s a different franchise and Mahomes was unlikely to ever catch up to his total ring count - but Maye doing it on his home turf is personal. He wants to be the sole Patriots GOAT forever, he doesn’t want some kid encroaching on that - especially when he just retired a couple years ago and isn’t even in the HOF yet.
There is still 20 years left to make any comparison to Brady …

I think this isn't super far off and that Gronk had it right. TFB wishes he were playing in this game.

Us Pats fans have "found another", and he's a hell of a dude, on and off the field.

Agree with the sentiments that the competitive fire that drove him to win 6 Super Bowls with us is the same thing driving this so-called odd behavior.

To me, the trade off is worth it.

Brady's hypercompetitiveness is a thing deeply embedded in his ego.

Don't think for a minute that he doesn't want anyone anyone else to come close to his achievements.

I'm not put off by him not openly rooting for the Patriots given his current role as an owner and announcer, but he could have answered the question better by acknowledging that he'd be happy for Kraft, Vrabes and the organization if they won.

Boston and NE have embraced the Mayes.

I love Drake Maye. They are a refreshing change and excellent role models when they are just kids themselves.

I think the angle people aren’t thinking about in all of this:

Maybe Tom is seeing the way we’ve wrapped our arms around Maye, and has a part of him that’s jealous, feeling replaced in that regard? Maybe bringing back bitter feelings of how things ended here, with him being let go.

That would be very irrational on his part. But we know Tom’s competitive nature was always centered on being super irrational. I think it’s become something that’s been to a fault in this stage of his life. Seems like something about this hits him too close to home.

I don’t love how Tom’s distanced this team at arms length right now. But before telling the guy FU, keep in mind that same personality was a driving factors in winning us 6 Super Bowls. You take the good with the bad.
I love Tom Brady the Qb. I don’t like Tom Brady the person very much, even aside from this latest stuff.

I don’t see anything wrong with that, but I’ve always rooted for the laundry and players only matter to me while they are here.

I agree - it’s too soon in Tom’s mind. And he did not expect to have to deal with it yet. If the game was on Fox - this broadcast might have been an all-timer
Tom Brady in the booth is the only thing missing from the game

Has anyone else noticed how Brady pronounces certain words in an accent that is not of this world?

A Western states sports radio show was pointing this out earlier in the week. Specifically, when Brady was color for the NFCC and he kept mentioning Clint Kubiak, but with the twist or twang on Kubiak that was strange. TB12 does the same to other words during games.

He is probably taking lessons in his normal maniacal way, attempting to hone his speech and delivery. Sad.

True.

He does not need to be someone he is not.

That’s what he is probably afraid of lol
Just to survive in everyday life , 20 years is not the easiest. To do it in the nfl ?? Virtually impossible. Lucky to be around 10 years. Anything can happen. Tom’s 7 Super Bowl rings as starting qb will never be broken. At least not in my lifetime. And I hope to be around another 30-40 years

What's "sad" about Brady trying to get better at his job?

You know what is actually " sad?" Answer Bill and Bunny.
