I don’t think Brady specifically dislikes Maye but I do think you hit the nail on the head with your last couple sentences. He doesn’t like that Maye is in the big dance in just his second season just like Tom did because that was supposed to be something that only Tom could do. If Maye wins then there will be chatter about if it’s the start of a “new” Patriots dynasty and there will be ever more comparisons to how Maye is doing what Brady did but with an arguably weaker team. Etc, etc.Troy Aikman didn't like it during the Tony Romo era where the Cowboys became relevant again. Romo became a celebrity and was dating Carrie Underwood and then Jessica Simpson. Damn! They were the heavy favorite in the NFC in 2007 and Troy loved it while they losing to the Giants in the divisional round. To this day, he still likes to see the Cowboys lose because Aikman is still the #1 QB you think of.
Fast forward to Romo as a broadcaster. He has real beef with Prescott who took his job in 2016. Romo also likes to see them lose and Prescott in particular.
With that said, I don't think Brady is threatened yet by Maye, but it's in their competitive nature to be the only relevant player at their position in franchise history. It may annoy Brady a little bit if Maye wins a Super Bowl in his 2nd year and now be the 2nd QB in Franchise history to do it.
Well that’s one way to look at it. lmaoIf this hyppthesis is correct, it means Brady is psychotic
I’m sure he prefers this over Mayo having this success, though. The guy that literally undercut him from beneath.I’m not sure BB loves Vrabel’s success either
I agree - it’s too soon in Tom’s mind. And he did not expect to have to deal with it yet. If the game was on Fox - this broadcast might have been an all-timerI don’t think Brady specifically dislikes Maye but I do think you hit the nail on the head with your last couple sentences. Tom will NOT like to have someone compared like that to him. It was one thing when it was Mahomes because it’s a different franchise and Mahomes was unlikely to ever catch up to his total ring count - but Maye doing it on his home turf is personal. He wants to be the sole Patriots GOAT forever, he doesn’t want some kid encroaching on that - especially when he just retired a couple years ago and isn’t even in the HOF yet.
Yeah, part of me is really sad that we were denied the chance to hear Brady call a Patriots Super Bowl from the booth, but then another part of me wonders if maybe that’s for the best lolI agree - it’s too soon in Tom’s mind. I think the angle people aren’t thinking about in all of this:
Maybe Tom is seeing the way we’ve wrapped our arms around Maye, and has a part of him that’s jealous, feeling replaced in that regard? Maybe bringing back bitter feelings of how things ended here, with him being let go.
That would be very irrational on his part. But we know Tom’s competitive nature was always centered on being super irrational. I think it’s become something that’s been to a fault in this stage of his life. Seems like something about this hits him too close to home.
I don’t love how Tom’s distanced this team at arms length right now. But before telling the guy FU, keep in mind that same personality was a driving factors in winning us 6 Super Bowls. You take the good with the bad.
Never understood peoples' compulsion to make up entire worlds in their head out of thin air.
Brady has taking his fame to a couple of very lucrative marketing deals. Bothurn in the broadcast booth to part ownership of LV. A good broadcaster tries to not show favoritism so that both sides watching do not feel slighted and angered. So you to have keep neutral to continue. Part Ownership as a front man for the team trying to attract players that can help the Raiders. He needs to stay loyal or his word as the welcome wagon would be tarnished. More important the fanbase would go nuts.
I like the Patriots Brady much better. He is doing what he needs to do to better his career. When doing that we lose the Boston darling that we cherished. I do believe this will soften over the years. Tom has become kind of plastic but I will never begrudge a man from bettering himself. His reputation as a player was over the top preparation. Well the old saying. “A tiger never changes his stripes”. Just my take

He played 23 seasons in the NFL. I don't think Brady is exactly normal. If this hyppthesis is correct, it means Brady is psychotic
It's his personal instagram account bro lol it's realIf this is real -- and I can't confirm that -- it represents little more than damage control at this very late stage. Pats fans across the spectrum are pissed and some of that must be getting through. This morning alone on 98.5 three women phoned in calling for Brady's statue to be removed. Pretty extreme, yes, but people are losing it.
Tom put Mahomes in his place in 2018 when he went into KC and beat him in the AFCCG. Then again in 2021 when the Bucs humiliated him in the Super Bowl.I don’t think Brady specifically dislikes Maye but I do think you hit the nail on the head with your last couple sentences.
