You’ve seen Ron Borges and Ben Volin, right? They may not be the actual HOF voters, but the profession that chooses the HOF voters are filled with people like them.
Exactly....and it's these individuals that need to reconsider their purpose and the standards of voting for the HoF.

For Bill Belichick to not be a 1st ballot HoFer shouts reprehension for him and as a consequence sullies the sanctity of the institution.

They ****ed up on multiple levels.

Patriots “fans” who have denigrated and minimized Belichick’s contributions to six SBs helped create this environment.
Sports writers from every city are not looking at what Patriots fans are debating online. It only took 11 votes to keep him out. Well 3 votes go to people associated with the Colts. Tony Dungy, Bill Polian, and the Colts sports writer who gets a vote. There, you have almost a quarter of the votes you need right there. It's not hard to imagine other teams or media heads with grudges can make up 8 more votes. Take your pick from Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New York, Seattle, LA (Rams), Denver, Philadelphia, etc who all had grudges

I feel sad for Bill but I hope this outpouring of support and shock reactions around the NFL world help to fix the over-correction on his perception that's happened recently.

I imagine Kraft wants to be in the HoF before Bill or at least at the same time. He’s probably not upset. At all.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Kraft was one of the people telling voters to not vote for BB this time around.

If the NFL has any integrity left, they should announce that all votes are now public, and that they will overrule the voting committee and put Belichick in first year. He may be an *******, but being an ******* does not diminish his accomplishments.

Don't waste your emotions on this. It's obviously all planned well ahead of time. This is specifically to coincide with Pats making SB. So it's either a hint they lose or the obvious storyline of - thry disrespected The Pats and they went out and won it!!!

Well that’s the media for ya. Didn’t Ted Williams lose out on an MVP because of the media voters?

Taking the high road and doing the right thing is really hard for some people to do.

While I appreciate your optimism there, my point is that you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. They’re irredeemable and will never do what you’re asking.

I don’t think Polian expected this sort of backlash. This won’t end well for him.

This is gonna go as well for the NFL HOF as the rollout of New Coke for Coca Cola in the 1980's.

Talk about a PR black eye!!!!! Hilariously ironic that the NFL may turn out to be be the only organization on the face of our planet that can actually make Bill Belichick a sympathetic firgure in the eyes of the public!!!!!

I predict, Marketing Professors will be teaching this case study to students for decades to come!

.

Portnoy just had his ban lifted, I hope he goes ape ****.

again probably the best thing to happen to BB reputation ironically
Everyone minus a few haters on his corner

Jimmy Johnson is a known friend of Belichick's, so no surprise he would come out against it, although him openly calling the 10+ voters who denied Belichick the HOF induction this year a*holes is sort of funny.

Others who have come out firing against the decision include (other than Watt and Mahomes whose tweets have been posted here before) Gerald McCoy, Cam Jordan, Logan Ryan, Phil Dorsett and Kendrick Bourne. These voters that decided based on personal grievances / pettiness to deny Belichick the first ballot induction were so focused on their own little thing that they completely missed what a ****storm they would create by this. This will probably exceed the negative reactions that came after they denied Terrell Owens two times. The reactions that are now coming in were entirely predictable.

Wrong Borges IS a HOF voter.

Mike Sando:
I'm a HOF voter who saw Belichick as slam-dunk. I don't know anything about voting results, but if this is true, and we'll find out officially next week, the question is, how could this happen?

Before I list possibilities, understand this: Belichick, Kraft, Craig, Anderson & Greenwood are competing for 1-3 spots, separate from the 15 modern-era finalists

50 voters each pick 3 of the 5

Between 1-3 make it (40+ votes needed for anyone besides top vote getter to make it)

So it's a ZERO-SUM game, huge change made in '25: 250 total votes to go around for five candidates with a high bar for clearance

Now we count the potential ways Belichick might get fewer than 40 votes even when 40+ on committee think he's a HOFer...

•Let's say 4-5 voters who were strong advocates for specific senior players figured Belichick was going to make it regardless, so they funneled votes to competing candidates in hopes of boosting them over the 40-vote threshold;

•Let's say a few voters prioritized senior players on the thinking that Belichick will be back in the room next year, while the players on the ballot this year might disappear into the senior pool forever

•Let's say a few voters found Spygate/cheating disqualifying

•Let's say a few voters protested new rules making coaches eligible one year after retiring instead of five

Whatever the case, I would see this as a repudiation of the new voting rules implemented for 2025, not of Belichick or any candidate not making it.

There will be changes to the process, I predict

I didn't know what the heck you were talking about. I also always thought Bill was that way to protect his team and to win.

You didn't know what I was talking about so you assumed I was 'validating' something I didn't even mention???
Something I've repeatedly called BS over my years here? BB figuratively *****-slapped a lot of the clowns absurdly entrusted with a vote, that is why he isn't going in on the 1st ballot and everything else is just an excuse. The truth is if the NFL wanted a HoF they could be proud of instead of one that gets snickered at they could start over and have Bill solely select its members. I guarantee they'd all be worthy
