Stiddy discussion

I don’t expect him to be as bad as Stroud, better line and weapons. But yeah, he isn’t a good QB and I’d be very disappointed if we aren’t in the SB.

losing to Stidham would be a disaster. this isn’t a Foles situation. Foles looked like an all-pro in 2013 and then was helped in the SB by the opposing coach benching a starting corner the entire game and playing guys in the secondary out of position

With backups, in Sean Payton’s coaching career he is 9-5. That’s not including 2021 where he had a hodgepodge of guys like Jameis Winston, Trevor Siemian, Taysom Hill and Ian Book and went 9-8.

Stidham has a good oline, a good running game with Dobbins possibly coming back and experience in Payton’s system to go along with his other experience in the league. I think Payton will just let Stidham be a game manager early and see if the D can get turnovers. I expect quite a few rollouts and screens and I feel like the D just has to keep him in the pocket. Disguise the coverages well like they’ve been doing and watch out for those end zone fades.

I wonder what Stid is thinking right now about facing the Pats. Obviously a Super Bowl berth is motivation enough. Also has to be motivated to beat the team that gave up on him a couple years ago...but the people that did that like Belichick are no longer around.

Thank you for the reasonable post. Broncos-Patriots games have had a lot of memorable moments. Remember that playoff game where Tebow had you in his hairs until late into the 2nd minute of the 1st quarter? Good times.
Why do you guys hate Josh McDaniels? Seems like most Broncos fans do. He wasn't that bad a coach there right?

Guy was a binkie coming out, just thought he had it on the field.

This is going to be an incredible chess match. Payton is very good. Stidham has maybe the best offensive line in the NFL in front of him. It's going to be a huge challenge for the Patriots to get any pressure.

On the other hand, this defensive line with Milt Williams, Tonga, Barmore, Durden, and others (Farmer coming back, Taylor) is very very tough against the run.

So, if the Broncos are forced to abandon the run, we're going to see Stidham with lots of time throwing at a loaded d-backfield with multiple men dropped back.

I hope we don't blitz like crazy because even Stroud took advantage of us there. Sending on e extra man is fine.

Stidham has to be checkdown charlie here because the Patriots will give up 5-10 yards. If the Patriots stop the run, Stidham will be facing extra DBs.

As for the Patriots on offense, attack attack attack Riley Moss.

Nix is overrated, he's a low middle of the pack QB in this league if you look at his numbers......he's a huge product of the oline and payton; he's got grit, he's got the starter mentality, he just doesn't have the skills to be a top 10 QB at this point

so the loss of Nix in this game isn't as huge as the loss of another QB on one of the playoff teams; stidham should know the offense, it shouldn't change the playbook much, hell, he throws a better deep ball than Nix

from a pure rep/rust standpoint, taking away the run and forcing him to win the game should be the plan, but i just don't see it as huge a loss if say maye or hebert or a stafford went down (although garrapalo > stidham)

*IF* Stidham has a great game, the Patriots defense would have to turn in a clunker of historic magnitude.
Nix isn’t great, Sean Payton is great. The Pats have to prepare for this team exactly like before.

We haven’t seen Stidham in years, not sure at this point is any worse than Nix. He was always an accurate passer, he just panicked under pressure and threw it to the other team. He might have learned patience the older he got and Payton will do his best to keep him out of trouble.

I think the biggest key is not putting the ball on the ground. We can get away with 6 fumbles like we did last two games on the road and that too in mile high. I suspect our defense will also be more challenged. its not greg roman or nick caley. Have to weather the storm and protect the football at all costs.

And they're not going to. They've allowed 1 TD in the playoffs and that one TD was pretty much a redzone turnover by the offense.

They're locked in pretty good at just the right time.
But i think they are facing a much better playcaller. We can only hope we have our zappe vs wilson game performance from payton.

I think that's a bit histrionic.

It would be quite disappointing, but we're past the point where any outcome can really be classed as a "disaster." Even if we lose a game some fans think we should win, I'm not that concerned. Fans think we should win every game.

We're going up against one of the best defensive units in football, again, and all it's going to take is a genuinely bad game by the OL and we'll be in trouble. Yes, Stidham isn't a particularly good QB, but the rest of that unit is good enough to beat anyone on any given Sunday.

Everyone who would talk crap about losing to Stidham would find a way to talk crap about any way in which the Patriots lost, no matter what it is. Gotta let that part go and just enjoy the ride.

It's all to play for, I want to win, but at the same time, we're playing with house money. We aren't desperate for a Superbowl win, and there would be plenty of positives to take home even in the worst case scenario.

Payton this, Payton that. How many SBs did the guy win in NO with freaking Drew Brees as his QB. I, like last week about the Texans D am SICK AND TIRED of hearing about how good Payton is. People need to stop with this ****, the OC on the Pats side, as well as the HC have accomplished so much more in the NFL than Payton has.

Oh and as far as the best o-line in football, pretty sure they are running some backups out there in a couple of spots on that O line.

The real opponent is Sean Payton. Stidham is capable of carrying out Payton’s offense. If we turn the ball over again this will be a dogfight.
Enough of Payton love.. Payton won 1 Superbowl with brees . He is good but defly not on level of Mike shanahan or
mcvay.

Their defense is overrated while our defense is underrated . That's why we see the diffidence. If we play to potential , we should thrash broncos by rune if 2-3 scores at least. Similar to how Seahawks whooped broncos in super bowl .

Agree. Did not see your post earlier...

I feel many of us are circumspect not wanting to jinx it . But we should be 80% confident against the broncos. Only thing stopping us is crowd noise and altitude and if Maye has his worst game of his career . If he plays as good as against Texans and we don't lose the fumbles , we should be able to win it.

I just want Barringer to pin them back behind the 20s or in 10s when we we punt. That's the biggest issue I have with the team . I strongly believe Campbell should be able to manage bonito. He is 250 lbs compared to Campbell's weight of 320 lbs . So he is going to go around edges and Campbell is fluid enough to push him out . Campbell struggles against bull rush like Khalil Mack but against speedier rushers I believe his footwork and technique is equally good and he doesn't need to put too much weight on his knee . He can push them back. I feel he will neutralize the Denver pass rush significantly. It's a hot take , but let me go with that .

As someone above suggested just let Maye bootleg to the right and make throws on the move like Caleb. Donno why he was so much in the pocket . Looked like he was aiming for all deep throws. Let's sprinkle in the variety to confuse them. If hollins comes back. It's game over for broncos. Maye will be milking every possessionbas he has a safety valve who does blocking too and is a better route runner than Henry and has similar if not bigger catch radius than Henry.

Paytons a damn good coach, he'll have Stidham ready. Vrabels good too so I like our chances.

Oh man, i couldnt understand why we were doing blitz zero on eveyr third down. Kuhr needs to see who he is playing. Stroud couldnt do anything when we dropped in coverage.

There are a lot of damn good coaches out there. I'll take the braintrust of the Pats over anyone else.
