Stiddy discussion

I got the feeling TB12 didn’t think much of Stidham on the field. I remember after Stid threw a pick six to Jamal Adams Tom was on the sidelines looking disgusted. Could be wrong but that’s the impression I got…

You wrote this: "My guess is that he'll actually run the offense better than Bo Nix did..." Its not out of context. There is no twisting. It cannot be interpreted any other way. You wrote it. It says what is says no matter how much you squirm. It is complete and utter delusional foolishness. There is no excuse. Its just hilarious to me anyone could think that, let alone write it.
It’s cope.

My guess is that he'll actually run the offense better than Bo Nix did. He's a decent athlete - just nowhere near as mobile as Nix is. My guess is that we'll see a lot of safe throws, with the occasional shot downfield. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'll add, what in the world are you talking about, regarding Nix? I loved the pick from the minute it was made. Payton says that he liked Nix better than any of the other QBs in the draft. And the way things have worked out, I think he's the right QB for us. I literally felt something akin to grief Saturday night when the news came out. But it is what it is, and we are where we are.

Same level as Nix? Where are you getting that?

No one is saying that he will be better than Nix. Given the choice, I would have Nix playing Sunday, a thousand times out of a thousand.

Is it uncouth to quote yourself here. I am just highlighting a few posts where I have absolutely expressed my opinion about this.

I'd love to know what happened between Brady's departure in March and Cam's signing in June. Did Bill really think Stid was the guy going into the season? And if he did what changed his mind?

Excellent question.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think the original plan was to bottom-out with Stidham (and Hoyer in case of injury), and draft a QB with a top-ten pick the following spring. But then Bill either got cold feet, or the competitive juices got flowing, and he signed Cam. Prior to that Newton was not a consideration by any of the 32 teams because of his injuries (arm wasn't the same after right shoulder surgery, then a Lisfanc fracture). It was assumed he was either done, or at best wouldn't be able to play 2021. Nobody even talked to him early in free agency, IIRC. It was rather odd because it happened so late - it's one thing to sign a FA in July; another to sign your starting QB that late.

Haven't seen this mentioned in the thread (sorry if it was), but I vaguely remember Stidham having some mysterious injury that reportedly ticked off Bill.

Don't know if this were true, but does anyone else recall this?

Serious question : where do posters think Stiddy ranks amongst all backups ? Top third ? Bottom third ? Mid ?

How would you even gauge such a thing? There is no metric other than emotion or feeling if they don't play. The best evidence is when the starter goes down how the backup performs. Mac Jones and Malik Willis had really great years for being backups. Stidham has done absolutely nothing to show anyone he is in the top 3rd or bottom 3rd.

I really just don't care about Stidham. Like @NovaScotiaPatsFan said, the matchup vs the Broncos offense was never about the QB in the first place, it was about their OL and Sean Payton's playcalling. QB was not a strength for Denver and it still is not.

Going from Nix to Stidham is probably not much of a downgrade, but it's certainly not an UPGRADE, as many are trying to convince themselves of.
It would suck if the Patriots defense holds up brilliantly vs Herbert & Stroud, only to let Nix carve them up. One advantage for Denver might be that he has not thrown a ball in forever. Sometimes QB's without recent tape can cause issues. Add in Payton's ability to get the most out of QB's. Than again, McDaniels worked closely with Stidham. So I am sure he will be communicating what he knows to the defense.

Buffalo turned it over five times and were a Cooks catch away from winning. If the Patriots do not turn it over, in what should be decent conditions, it's going to be tough for Denver to win. But that stadium is so loud that it's a huge advantage to them.

All it takes its one good game from him lol
We almost lost to Bortles in the middle of the 2nd dynasty.
Mile High is also the main factor our House of Horrors
Bortles was playing on a weekly basis. It's not easy for a QB to start for the first time in a few years. In the AFC title game no less. Not saying Stidham can't go out there and perform well. Much crazier things have happened.

The NFL's worst nightmare (In terms of SB hype etc) would be getting Darnold vs Stidham. I think the matchup everyone wants to see is Patriots vs Rams part 3. The Rams will be in tough though.

Bortles, as average as he was was also leagues above Stidham. Bortles was a starter for a few years while Stidham has started 4 games in 7 years. Either he’s not that good or every coach in the league has been wrong about him. I’m going with the former. Doesn’t mean he can’t have one good game but I think the AFCCG is going to be way too big of a stage for him. If this was week 9 of a season maybe he could do one off game but the playoffs? Super Bowl on the line? Hard sell

New England has a full 3 years of tape on him in the building from 2019, 2020 and 2021, and then Josh had him in 2022 in Vegas. So I don’t think the lack of recent tape is a problem. I doubt he has transformed into a different player after just three years in Denver riding the bench the entire time.

In 197 career attempts, Stidham has thrown 8 interceptions and also fumbled 4 times (1 of which was lost). That’s 12 combined, or about one pick/fumble per every 16 drop backs. And that’s just on average… Against a strong defense, he would likely perform worse.

Broncos are going to come to fight. If we pull away, it won’t be early. I think Stidham is going to throw a bad interception somewhere in the game. Maybe two but I think he’ll do enough to manage the game. I think in the 4th quarter we’ll pull away. 24-13 type game that is maybe 17-13 going in the 4th.
Denver has always been a nightmare for patriots teams forever. That altitude and crowd and pressure will be beyond what maye and co have seen before. Tey just need to settle down and get ina rhythm. Denver i think plays a lot of man to man which will be tougher than the zone defenses they have seen so far. I dont know McDaniels record vs denver after he was fired there but i think it isnt great. Not sure. Vance joseph and Sean payton are some great play callers so this will be the toughest game they have played in the playoffs regardless of the QB

I mean, Bo Nix was never what concerned me about Denver anyway, it was their defense and their home field advantage. Both of those things are still going to be there on Sunday, so I don't see a massive difference. I absolutely see no reason to think we've got this game in the bag, especially how sloppy Drake has been with the ball these two playoff games. And look, I love the kid but we've gotten extremely lucky those haven't bitten us in the ass so far. If we do that in Denver we might suffer yet another defeat in that house of horrors.
Denver gave up 30 to Buffalo and Allen turned it over 4 times

Gotta wonder based on real league experience and success, who would Sean Peyton pick to fill in for Nix, Stidham or Devito? (Assuming both have equal understanding of the offense)

Tommy has 3 NFL wins in 8 starts. That's a hint

Thank you for the reasonable post. Broncos-Patriots games have had a lot of memorable moments. Remember that playoff game where Tebow had you in his hairs until late into the 2nd minute of the 1st quarter? Good times.

He was drafted by Mister Hudson, so he probably sucks

Are you trying to say that our QB3 is better than their new starter (fmr backup), their QB2, and new QB3?
