Can we acquire Stefon Diggs?

I'm curious would you elaborate?
He's an absolute creature. Just Google him. Guys like him, Kroenke, Irsay, Snyder & others are legitimate creeps but let's make sure we drag our own owner through the mud for a few dumb mistakes.

we can trade for Cousins but they have to throw in diggs

Yes, we want diggs!!!! All playmakers at the wide receiver position should be on our radar.

We have draft picks to burn,

Question if Watson isn't retained do we get the cap back now?

I am not sure why you would cut Watson but I think he is still eligible for termination pay. So not sure you'd get actually any substantial cap space out of this.

I read if we don't activate him by Monday he is automatically released so my question is do we get back his cap because I'd rather have Sanders or Diggs.

Maybe that's how the Patriots could work Diggs on the cap.
I was just thinking

Honestly we need Watson. I just don’t see us not keeping Watson.

Tight end is too valuable of a position to just shoot it dead to buy a new receiver.

this is why gronk was so influential outside of just his receiving skills. think of how this board always takes a poop on Jimmy Graham and other glorified receivers who pose as TE's. It's because you're wasting half their function.

He is not automatically released. The team needs to release SOMEONE either way because his roster exemption will run out at that point and you can't have more than 53 players on the roster.

That doesn't void his contract or his eligibility as veteran for termination pay. Unless he already used up that termination pay with another team before. For this I have not found anything with a quick search.

You mean Demaryius Thomas? I don’t think he’s ever recovered from his hamstring issues, but that would be wild.
Is he actually hurt? I think he saw where things were headed and...

Watson isn't eligible for termination pay since he wasn't technically on the Week 1 roster.

Good point. The part about the termination pay is irrelevant then.

The most a release of Watson will free up is $1.8M

How much do we need to get Diggs at his current deal?

Depends on when but I've been seeing numbers from $6M-$9M, It's not just about this year with his deal though, it only goes up after this season and the Pats have kicked a fair share of cans down the 2020 road already. That's why many folks would prefer Emanuel Sanders, not only will he cost less in trade but his contract is up after this season so no future cap impact and whatever you gave up to get him would be partially offset by what will most likely be a 3rd round compensatory pick when he moves on after the season.

Or as @MUFC7 mentioned in the “Manny Sanders” thread, TEN WR Corey Davis would be the perfect fit here in NE (talent and most importantly cost wise). He’s young, healthy, talented, still on his rookie deal and has some “experience” in the NE culture. The only thing is, would TEN be willing to part with him? Or...would he be willing to start calling his superiors “crackers”?

Corey Davis
