Trent Williams interest?

If we trade for Trent Williams, the Wynn pick would be a total waste...unless they move him over to RT and cut Cannon or include him as part of the package for Williams.

What an odd notion. Why would it be a "waste" to have 3 OTs that you're happy with? When did such a thing become a problem? Vollmer wasn't a "total waste" of a pick when was subbing in 2009.

Or trade Cannon, who is 31 and not the 2nd Team All Pro he was before, to a team like the Texans (ultimate **** you move if we get Williams), move Thuney over to RT, and stick in Wynn at LG.

Yeah I changed my post to reflect possibly trading Cannon. Wynn has to start somewhere - otherwise you would have wasted a first round pick on a guy who didn’t play last year and is a backup this year. Wynn is too good to sit on the bench. Not sure Thuney is a RT...

Excellent point, Deus.

That was easier to type than I thought it would be.

There's a reason why Dan The Skipper is getting a looong look at LT right now...Wynn isn't close to being ready to play a meaningful snap. Thankfully, meaningful snaps don't begin for over a month, but Bill is obviously concerned enough to begin to consider alternatives.

Not many people know this but earlier this week Isaiah Wynn was hooked up to a lie detector gizmo and the results are in....Isaiah Wynn prefers to play LG more then any other position. It's also a fact that he'll play any position short of KR / PR to help the team Wynn (see what i did there?).

It's not a crime if Isaiah Wynn is backup this year and is starting LG or LT next year.

This is so NOT happening. This just does not happen under the BB regime where they trade for a top tier player when that player's value is extremely high. It has never happened with BB as general manager and will not happen now given the current OL personnel.

It especially does not happen when they are tight against the cap. It is fun to dream about getting a player like Trent Williams but Patriots always buy low and sell high.

Acquiring Williams now would be buying high

When healthy I agree you need to play Wynn. But easing him back from his Achilles this season as your swing tackle isn’t a bad idea.

Was acquiring Cooks buying low?

He is not on the PUP list. Camp opened a week ago so let's give Isaiah Winn a little more time.

For an end of first round pick, basically like a high second, he puts up a thousand yard season, then getting picks back for trading Cook later? Hell yes do that every time.

I like cooks and was happy with the trade but we definitely bought high dealing a first(albeit a late 1) for 1 year of cooks before his price tag jumped considerably with his 5th year option.

We also sold high trading him a year later getting back a 1 instead of paying the 8 plus mil for 2018.

Ok, but how are you going to pay both williams AND cannon with 5-6 million in cap space left? Having William and Cannon start and sitting Wynn doesn’t make financial sense.

I think there’s a better chance that Skipper develops into a starting LT. His weaknesses are correctable and they have probably done a lot of work trying to correct them already.

Well, if true, their corrections don’t seem to be working out, because all reports state that he’s pretty much sucked so far. With Wynn being carefully managed and Croston being an injured cut, they had to find someone for the job. I believe that it would almost definitely be Thuney if this situation were occurring during the actual season.

I don’t believe that they’re actually considering Williams, mainly because I don’t believe they can afford him, but having Wynn as a swing tackle and backup guard in his second year isn’t going to keep Belichick up at night.

They’re going to give the best players opportunities to thrive, and if Wynn is still being nursed back to health after a bad injury then it is what it is. Personally, I have a hard time believing that a guy like Williams will be brought here, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Wynn’s role was more limited than expected—at least to start the season.

Then we have a somewhat serious depth problem at tackle. Not exactly an ideal spot you want to be in when your QB will be 42 years of age and has been tweaking his practice and offseason habits in order to “take hits better.”

But if Wynn is ready to go, I’d rather see him start then sit on the bench and not take valuable snaps. He’s had a year to recover. He should be fine by now.

It's driving me crazy. They can't afford Williams. Not even with a TB12 extension.

If Wynn is still not ready, I can see them making a deal for a more cost-effective veteran.

Yea thus far the observations are less than glowing on The Skipper.
