Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

damm - not signed yet.. per BB presser

now that I look back at PFT it doesn't say he is "signed." It says that the two have agreed to terms. Lynch is probably going to now mull over retiring or not, but will only take the Patriots should he come back

Agreed to terms likely means he hasn't taken and passed a physical yet - doubt it has anything to do with him thinking about retiring.

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

Lynch was whining about reps in Denver, and he's going to get fewer here than he was going to get there.

For that reason alone, I was surprised when this started looking plausible.

And I agree that he's probably coming mainly to be a situational LB. In that context, he DOES make the team faster.

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

Anybody else think a couple of coaches (BB & DC)are going to sit down with Mr. Lynch and ask him precisely how Shanny analyzes and prepares his defense for the Patriots?!?! :D

I didn't even think of that... you may be on to something there ;)

Agreed to terms means he's passed the physical and has agreed to play for the team under the contract that's been presented - but has yet to actually sign the paperwork.

If Lynch is actually signed, the Pats have to cut a player.

Maybe, the Pats are mulling over who to cut or perhaps they

haven't informed the player that he has been released.

I say this all the time and people accuse me of being a Reiss suck up
If Mike doesn't report it, then I don't believe it. If I'm a Reiss suck up for feeling that way...so be it. :p

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

the fact that BB mentioned Lynch in the conference and said if/when something happens, leads me to believe its just a technicality at this point. He brings the guy in everytime he gets cut, so there is major interest there.

True, but he knows that coming in, and so does Belichick. It was obviously discussed when the two met (or will be discussed). BB wouldn't bring him here if he thought Lynch would bicker about playing time.

Well, Reiss is not going to report on an "agreed to terms" deal, he's just going to report the final decision which will be the contract terms and then the corresponding roster cut.

He'll have to get that from Stacy James and you know how that goes....slowwwwwww.

Bill LOVES the veteran defensive guys, this is like Christmas in August for Bill.

That's true, but when he reports it, there is no doubt or debate that it's true.

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

Lynch has certainly lost a step or two from his prime, but he can still help the defense, especially in a LB/S hybrid role like Williams was working on. I personally don't care for the move because I can't stand the guy and don't want to have to root for him if and when he plays for the Patriots. I'll just have to look at it as a good opportunity for the younger safeties on the roster to learn from an accomplished veteran and become better players for the future, and ignore who they're learning from as much as possible...

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

This isn't even debatable as to whether its a good signing.

Oh yes it is. Lynch was constantly exploited last year by teams with good passing offenses. Without knowing BBs plans for him, there may have been better players available with lesser name recognition. I don't want to say he's done, but based on last year's performance, age has taken a greater toll on him than Junior, Tedy, and Rodney...three guys about whom it is often said are noticably slowing. He's definitely at the stage where he's job-specific....help against the run on the goalline or <1 situations....and if I'm the opposing OC and see Harrison and Lynch in the lineup at the same time, I'm smiling like a cheshire cat.

Again, he's not a lock to make the team, especially if he isn't going to play special teams. Is it a bad signing? Meh. I would put it in the "can't hurt" category. But I don't think it's going to impact our season, barring injury.

Folks, it's okay to admit BB is human. Monty Beisel is exhibit A, and the exhibits run through about P. It's also okay to accept people who don't drink kool-aid 24/7 as being something other than "haters".

according to belicheck he has not agreed to terms and is not signed he indicated they meet and he had a physical thats it

The Pats haven't played the Broncos for a couple of years. I doubt Shanahan is game planning a game in October during the 2nd week of the pre-season, and even if he were, the cast of characters on that Denver team will be significantly different than the last time the 2 teams played.

I don't really think this a factor with regard to New England's interest in the guy....

"I know there are some reports out there about John Lynch. I can tell you that I met with John yesterday. He came in, we talked, he took a physical, but right now he's not under contract with the Patriots. So until he is, I wouldn't have any further comment on that other than what I just said -- that he was here. If and when that happens, then we'll address it. But until then, I really don't have any other comment on it."

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

The physical is one of the last hurdles..usually after an understanding..that is great news. I think it was explained earlier how most likely he'd be a 3rd down ILB coverig RBs and TEs...that makes great sense...a big nickel...the fact that he is smart and a hrd hitter makes it a solid signing..just time...
Maybe they wish to see a player today..waiting to after practice to announce..

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

I'm excited about this, I always liked Lynch during his days in TB. If anything will reignite his spark, it will be playing under BB...
