How great would this defense be if Seymour gets back to form?

You can't double Seymour, Wilfork, Warren and let's not forget about AD and Vrabes. I can't wait to see Mayo come in for blitz right behind Seymour and AD or Wilfork.

Maybe we'll have MLB blitz that works and we won't hav to send Rodney?

Seymour and his buddies in the front 7 should be a top 3 run defense. Thye should be in the top 5 in sacks. Pass defense will have to prove themselves obviously.

I am going to get killed for this but here goes

Seymour is all about the $$$.

He knows that another big $ contract will require his play being worth someone giving him that $$$.

Seymour will be a beast this year.

Seymour can make life easier on the secondary, through run stopping and drawing penalties setting up 3rd and longs, and also pass rush (see Super Bowl). But to me the defense will be as good as the secondary plays. I think the line play will be good/better than last year, same as the linebackers. It's up to the secondary.

I'll be more than happy to pull that trigger on you .....all the money in the world cannot overcome knee and arm injuries, it really is as simple as that.

One huge key to our "D"'s potential dominance is RS health, not a contract year.

Pass defense is going to start up front. Our DBs are going to look better if we're controlling the line of scrimmage.

it all comes to pressure from the front 7 and if you need safeties to come to the LOS or can stay back in coverage

Ever since Seymour played fullback and got hurt he has never been the same.

Hope people think about that when they are yelling for Vrable on offensive goal line formations.

Seymour plays when Seymour wants to play.

Can't agree with you on this. As I've stated since last year, Seymour isn't a dog. He's just a huge guy with bad knees. I don't think he'll ever return to form, but it isn't for lack of trying.

I agree. I do not think it is cute to see guys out of position like that. In fact I cringe a little.

Belichick's defense has always been about the front seven (and sometimes the SS) pressuring the QB and make him make bad decisions and be off-kiltered. That is why we could win the Super Bowl in 2004 with a "patchwork secondary". Having all three d-linemen at 100% will be a huge step towards that.

I don't think the Pats putting a priority on resigning Seymour and Warren and eventually Wilfork have been top priorities while key secondary players like Samuels, Law, and Milloy have been expendible.

You have your opinion, I have mine.

Not only does Seymour need to be healthy he needs fire and desire back in his play - Even when the rare times when he was somewhat healthy enough to play during the past 3 years, you never even heard his name called much during a game.

I think this contract year will definately show whether Seymour still has intensity like 2002-2004 years when he was at his best or is he just another slightly better than average DE anymore.

Dude plays in the 3-4, when the hell was Seymour's name ever called all the time? His job is to penetrate and tie up blockers, not make 10 sacks. The secondary will be a product of what the front seven infront of them does. Why do you think the 04 Pats were so good? That team had arguably the worst secondary out of any. Earthwin Moreland was terrible. However, prime years from McGinest, Seymour, Bruschi and solid production from Vrabel covered that right up.

I think big Sey will be back, we'll see.

He probably went out and bought a gold plated knee that will last just for this contract.

So is this the official know nothing troll thread?

Serious knee surgery is an opinion and 3-4 defensive ends get their names called out for taking on double teams.

I think a lot of people post without having had serious injuries, so they don't understand how they can impact performance and linger for months, or years. They also don't seem to grasp that "average recovery time" means that some recover faster and some <gasp> recover more slowly.

Also, I think that they forget what they are dealing with when it comes to the Patriots and injuries. A player could be decapitated and he'd be mentioned as being day-to-day.

How does all this equate with a statement made by BB last year in late season when he said something to the effect, "that is the best game that Richard Seymour ever played"... everything is not what it appears to be..

It boggles my mind.

It's like "now that I have the big contract, I'll hyperextend my elbow and have a surgeon rip my knee apart after the season so I can endure painful, monotonous rehabilitation instead of playing. That'll show 'em".

Life of Riley.
