Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Ok guys I'm a little confused. The Pats got penalized NOT for taping signals but because they taped them from the sideline. But all these tapes they're showing are not from the sidelines. So how are they illegal and why are is the press making such a big deal about them? Can someone clear this up for me. I'm a little slow.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Walsh wasn't even there. I know nothing says Shultz ahh Walsh.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

The Patriots illegaly practiced a player on IR. To this I say who cares? If he's on IR he can't play the rest of the season anyway.

And the players scalped Super Bowl tickets. Unbelievable.

It's too bad that our 09 draft will be so anti-climactic without any draft picks.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Mic'ing players is now against policy. And apparently we're under investigation for crowd noise, too, despite the fact that we are the least likely team to have done that.

Goodell: other possible violations- leaving the toilet seats up in co-ed bathrooms, not turning lights off, and refusing to wear black ties at black tie events.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Jesus, the scalping of tickets and illegal practicing of an IR player... That's all that's new.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Right...because reactionary denials really endear you to the public and media and make you look so innocent. Grow up. The Patriots response to this has been the right thing to do from the start. You do not go back and forth with the media in order to defend yourself from detractors or the public. You state your case and then you stick by it, without making an already overblown issue more overblown. *****ing to the media and feigning innocence are tactics that players and agents disgruntled by their contracts or in trouble with the law take and look how much sympathy it gains for them. Hopefully, when cooler heads prevail and the league decides that this is over, people will look back and take the whole affair for what it was. Until then, dealing with a sensationalist sports media is just par for the course.

I disagree. IMO the public respects a man or organization who fights back. People who sit there and take it and talk about "truth being on their side" get steamrolled. People can rally around a fighter. Nobody can rally around a wimp. When an agreed upon narrative starts to emerge in the group think media, a competing narrative must be released to break up the monopoly before it can embed in the public consciousness.

If Goodell was the man who ordered the Pats to silence, they should have started leaking info. Afterall, Goodell did nothing as far we know to whoever leaked the tape to Glazer to begin with. This would have won them the loyalty of various key media pundits eager for scoop.

It is always better to fight back. Always.

End of story....

All those who are on the ledge can now step back and resume their normal lives.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Thank God.

Nothing else to say. Wore my Belichick Hoodie today, good thing it turned out as a celebration and not to show support for a suspended coach

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Wow, Walsh actually confirmed that we DID NOT USE THE TAPES DURING GAMES.

He was actually used for something.

HAHAHA!

Walsh confirmed that the tape remained in his possession all game.

Schlereth and Carter are morons.

Well, a precedent has been set for scalping tix, wasn't Tice just fined? Not much they can do about that, which is a beyond widespread practice.

As far as the IR'd player, again, a first offense for something like that, shouldn't warrant more than a fine, or if they want to satisfy the jackals, maybe a 5th round pick.

Jolly Roger said that would be a fine and the $750K we've already paid would suffice.

its starting to sound like walsh was on our side

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

First of all, I don't need to be told to "grow up," so keep the personal comments out of this. I've been following the team and have worked with national media for a long time. My experience is that if you don't defend yourself, you lose. This is not a rational process that is going to be decided on the basis of "ideas" or "right and wrong," as much as we'd like that to be the case. This is a political and media process, not a logical or reasonable process.

So your comment about buying a certain bridge wasn't a dig....whatever.

Your argument is flawed. The Patriots did defend themselves. The coach stated he believed he was working within his interpreatation of a rule. He was ruled in violation of that rule and he and the team have paid. He also stated that the tapes were only for use after a game and that he's never had a practice taped. This is the heart of what all the media people are claiming gave the Patriots such a huge advantage. The team has denied it. What do you think they should do....deny it twice a day....five times a day....100 times a day? Take ads out in the New York Times? Hold a live televised debate with Arlen Specter? Any further attention the team gives this huge dung pile of a story will just make it that much bigger of a pile.
