Here's my take on "reaching" for a valued prospect.

Ever been really interested in a particular item on Ebay and waited for the last minute bidding frienzy only to be burned on a final bid a few seconds later than you?

Instead of trying to find the absolute rock bottom price possible, why not bid a little higher, get the item you wanted, and not sit there like a idiot with your thumb 'you know where' when you lose out completely.

Better yet, click the "buy it now" button, guarantee you purchase the item at a fair price, and eliminate the risk of losing out all together....while moving on undistractedly to the next item.

I was thinking of something similar.
Basically, why get all messed up looking at who everyone else is after. It's way too unpredictable to project when those guys will get picked and probably a lot more frustrating.

You never can be too careful with all these trolls around.

This is a good point, as the "getting value" argument has really gotten absurd. It used to be used, rightly, to criticize teams who could have taken a play considerable lower, so should have drafted down, taken someone else first, etc.

But now, it's reached the point where these "experts" say stuff like "well, that was a reach at 14, because I think he would have dropped to the mid-twenties." Who cares?? Teams can't magically glide up and down the board and taken players at the absolutely exactly correct point (and who's to say where that is anyway). Bottom line, take good players and you'll be well off. If you can add some extra picks along the way (like the Pats do better than anybody) then I'd say you draft well. And gee, maybe that will lead to 3 Super Bowls! Hmmm.....
