This draft in two words -- speed, seriousness

B. Serious about football

There are lots of questions about strength, technique, and even quickness. But the guys drafted are consistently fast, and consistently seem to have Patriots attitudes.

In most cases, the positions where speed is less of an issue -- e.g., the lines -- didn't get addressed.

Or to put it another way, this draft was all about making the defense and even STs faster.

I agree that speed and maturity are the common bond with these guys. Many were seniors, they're all very well spoken. You can really see the Pats' profile in these guys. I'm very encouraged.

Several scouting reports questioned Crabble's and Wilhite's work ethic, but considered both players to be high cieling guys who could be starters with the right coaching. It is always promising when Belichick sees enough in guys like that to draft them.

This draft also appeared to be focused only on players who have some chance of making the roster, even if only as a role player. Take for example the fifth round pick, drafted as a potential gunner/return man.

The only thing they did this weekend was replace Junior Seau! The Pats now have something stupid like 13 cornerbacks on the roster, and none of them can even sniff the jock of the guy they let walk away FOR NOTHING!!!

They still can not rush the QB!

Rudd will be an excellent player FOR THE JETS, when they scopp him up after the Pats cut him, after he has been properly schooled. (sound familar)

I understand what FreeTedWilliams is saying though, their pass rush is still soft. This is what caught up to them in the superbowl. Having Vrabel and Thomas as your only pass rushers isn't very good.

Crable is a pass rusher, and drafting Mayo allows Adalius to play outside more without sacrificing speed and athleticism inside. Our pass rush just got substantially better, imo. We didn't draft Gholston, but that's hardly the end of the world, especially for the money he would have commanded and the picks we would have had to sacrifice to move up to 5.

I think they went a long way to fixing that with speed from the outside and up the middle as well as from two really fast CB's that can be called on to blitz as well.

The DL will open a clear path for Mayo find his way to the QB.....Crable appears to have a lot of closing speed from the edge to get there on time.

Wheatley could be sent in at any time from just about anywhere.

We got a whole lot faster today and filled a couple of holes in the process.

Technique can be taught. especially by this staff, if the player has the right attitude and is serious about FB, Speed can't really be taught.

Right ... as someone who has been here for a while I remember all the Samuel hate threads and posts. From too slow, to can't turn, can't swivel the hip and can't tackle ... all of them. Never mind that he was only drafted to be a nickle back. All these guys are drafted to be 2nd/ nickle backs ... but 1 will always rise to the occasion ... one from today will also.
