Most questions seem to be about spygate just 2 days before the game. Michael Smith -former globe reporter - asks what was in the tape and how many tapes and what was on the notes..
nice timing to all this but expected i guess

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

well it was actually nice to hear him answer the stuff and say that there where only like 6 tapes and that all that was on them was exactly what you saw in the "leaked" tape.

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

Specter did what he intended to do: he made Goodell come clean about the whole deal. That said, I doubt he was expecting it to vindicate the Pats. Funny how that worked out.

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

All the tapes were 2006 and 2007... so much for those tainted super bowls.

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

I was surprised at how direct some of his answers were.

"every team knows its signals are being stolen by other teams"

"every team takes measures during a game knowing their signals are being stolen"

"on one tape, an opposing coach is seen waving at the camera" :D

"the Patriots gained no competitive advantage from those tapes"

He said the above statement at least 3 times.

It seems some are disappointed by his answers and keep asking the same stupid thing over and over.

I wish he had been this direct over the impact, or lack thereof, of these tapes back in Sept.

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

His explaination on "why" he elected to destroy the tapes was PERFECT (and logical).

"If the tapes ever surface, I will know that they didnt turn over all of the tapes as they were instructed."

Tough to argue with that answer.

Is that right? How did that come out? Did Goodell say it?

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

This entire thing is avoided if he had just said this back in September, the ENTIRE THING. The fact that he let the Patriots name get dragged through the mud all season is a joke and we should be compensated for defamation of character. A first round pick will do.

Yes he said that specifically and was asked did they benefit any superbowl games and he said no they didn't

Personally you couldn't ask for a better outcome. Pats are vindicated yet they used the media witch-hunt all year to fuel a run at a perfect season, which will definitely happen.

If everything posted here is true (thanks cincipatsfan, btw) then Goodall should have looked at the tapes, taken away a #3 or #4 pick for being bad boys for disobeying him and moved along. Again, assuming he's telling the truth the #1 pick seems more unfair than ever.

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

Where Goodell f'd up was punishing the Pats so harshly for this nonsense. It gave the impression of a more severe infraction than actually occurred. It was a knee jerk response to a tempest in a tea kettle, the kind of fake firestorm to which an experienced lawyer like tagliabue would never have succumbed. Goodell, a green PR guy, got bad advice and was totally overwhelmed by the NY tabloids he eyeballed on the way to work everyday. I have long suspected a more than sympathetic connection between the NY Post and the Jet organization, though I haven't inquired after those connections. When the flurry of anti-BB divorce stories started emanating form the Post once Mangini took the job, my radar went up. Then the spygate nonsense, the asterisk. You never saw that level of acrimony from the Daily News or Newsday.

so then why take away a 1rd draft pick? i agree with him, the pats didnt gain any competetive advantage, however, why were they punished so harshly then? just b/c they were on the wrong spot on the field?

im asking cuz thats the excuse all the haters are using now, u say the pats didnt cheat, they ask why were they dogged a first round pick?

myself it should have been a 3rd pick, just for going against it, but it was pathetic how goodell tried to shut everyone up by taking away a 1st round pick, when in fact the opposite happened

So true, it's tragic that he didn't hold this press conference back then. The Patriots could have defended themselves, but BB puts the team first so he let the misperceptions linger.

I hope the media/public revisit their perceptions after this press conference. There's a lot of retractions that need to be made.

Re: Roger Goodell Press Conf

if he doesn't even know the pats played the eagles in the 03-04 regular season, how can anyone trust he's hiding more than he lets on? this all smells very fishy, especially with robby kraft's ties to the league.
Ties to the league? Like, he owns a team?? Oh my god, there must be a conspiracy! No other owner has ties to the league!

Because they were specifically told not to do it, and did it anyway.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that.

They were two, separately asked questions. Getting your hopes dashed must suck, eh? Kinda like finding out there's no real Santy Claus?

I heard the press con. and thought the same thing. He vindicated the Pats(said they gained nothing and the other teams knew they were being taped) But said the punishment was fair.

Really? I think it smells clean fresh and pure. You're the one releasing a stench.
