It is an amazing pattern for the Pats when facing a new QB for the first time. The QB in question may play well enough to either beat the Pats the first go around or play well enough to almost beat the Pats. Come the 2nd meeting the Pats generally make the QB look like a freshman in College. Case in point: (in no specific order)

QB / 1st meeting / next meeting
Roethlisberger / Pitt win / NE win
Carr / NE (OT) win / NE win
Rivers / SD win / NE win
Palmer / NE win (close) / NE win
Hasselback / NE win (close) / next season
Warner / STL win / NE win in SB
P. Manning / NE win (lots of them) / NE wins
E. Manning / NE win (close) / SB XLII

Any others?

I know we all see the pattern continuing at the SB.

Thoughts on this.

add Matt Schaub to the list of first game against BB and playes good enough to win, we don't know what the 2nd outcome will be until the 2009 season at the earliest.

I'd like to see the stat sheet for BB wins in the 2nd meeting in a season (non-division), regaurdless of the outcome of the first one. Gotta be pretty high.

Congratulations for finding a weird pattern, but patterns don't predict the future. For every pattern, there is a counter-pattern anyway.

And no, I won't go research that. Let me just remind you that George Custer had a nice pattern on a roll when he went into Little Big Horn. End of pattern.

When did Rivers beat the Pats?

Last year they lost three times to teams they were playing the second time of the season (Jets, Dolphins, Colts), the year prior they lost to the Broncos and Dolphins; in '04 they lost to the Dolphins in the second meeting; none in '03; '02 they lost to the Jets in a rematch; in '01 they were perfect in rematches; and do we even want to look at '00?

So that's seven losses.

In '01 they won four rematches (Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Rams); in '02, two (Bills, Dolphins); in '03, five (Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Titans, Colts); in '04, four (Bills, Jets, Colts, Steelers); in '05, two (Jets and Bills); in '06, two (Bills and Jets in the playoffs); and this year, four (Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Chargers). All together, a record of 23-7. Pretty good.

I said NON-DIVISION because obviously they play each other so much they might as well have each others playbooks. I meant NON-DIVISIONAL opponants. So I got the Colts last year and the Donks the year before. That's it right?

My bad. Yeah, those are the only two losses.

Wins: Rams, Titans, Colts, Colts, Steelers, Chargers.

6-2
