It never made any sense at all for Gonzo to play 2026 and only earn approximately 3 Mil in new money. That is too big a gamble.

Gonzo is the best CB in the NFL and will be a HOFer at this rate. We know that Gonzo can erase JSN, but can Witherspoon take out AJB?

Im assuming the 5 year option from his rookie contract is void and this take effect after this year

They’ll tell you. Backups suck. Kraft’s cheap. OL is a turnstile. Campbell is a TRex guard playing out of position at LT. Hendo’s a bust, and injured to boot. We’ve got no returners. Barmore’s a fat lazy slob, so is Onwenu, and Gonzo has character issues.

Season’s a disaster, we haven’t won a game yet.

And he’ll hit free agency again at age 29, right?
This starts after the fifth-year option, the 2027 season, which was picked up in April of this year.
So as an extension, there’s the standard four-year rookie contract, 2023-2024-2025-2026.
Then the fifth year option, 2027.
Then the four year extension, 2028-2029-2030-2031.

I haven’t seen this clarified yet. That’s my understanding.

This is what I'm wondering about as well. When does the new extention kick in? I thought it'd start next season.

I'm always terrified of injury the year a contested FA signs a massive deal. Look at our record on that...
Bledsoe - burst lungs, T. Glenn - mental case, Colvin - hip, Adailus Thomas - arm, Dion Lewis - knee, Gilmore - quads, Jonnu Smith - nagging, Barmore - blood clots.

It would be catastrophic if Gonzo gets hurt this year. Both on the field and in the cap.
