Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

So if Gonzo plays under the current contract and suffers a career ending injury, he'd be out a lot of money. Generational wealth type of money. Is there insurance to cover that sort of risk?
I believe there’s options available for coverage like that.

Just heard it’s the fully guaranteed they are far apart on. Witherspoon’s contract has messed things up.

Pats aren’t ready to fully commit as they want to see how Maye and AJ Brown play. Both could see new contracts in 2027.

Phil Perry thinks this will be his last year in NE if a deal doesn’t get done.

Doesn’t sound like NE is that high on Gonzalez as this board is.

If we spent the cap we sat on last year we may have won the SB.
Having to overpay because of your record is a myth except for a couple of aging veterans trying to find a ring.

In respects to depth, there was opportunity to keep the ranks robust and find good rotationals with the cap space.

Perhaps they felt the team was still unknown, or were trying to account for Gonzo/Maye. Who knows. But I agree

If this is right, they need to trade him now.

His value is going to plummet in the trade market as his contract costs expand.

If I'm another team and I know I have to pay him $100+m guaranteed and $38m AAV, I'm not giving up a haul to get him. And if the Patriots play hardball, they'll have a guy earning $9m for the year (assuming he holds out for half of it) who is completely useless to me.

Trade him now.

Do YOU have a GUARANTEED Deal?
My company hasn't given ME a Guaranteed deal ever.
I have a guaranteed deal.

But that's irrelevant.

There are 31 companies all over the country in the same industry as the Patriots and they are handing out guaranteed deals.

Despite the ongoing mantra here that the Patriots do not pay their draftees, I want to remind all of you that the following players were paid for new contracts under Belichick:

Willie McGinest
Ty Law
Richard Seymour
Tom Brady
Matt Light
Vince Wilfork
Logan Mankins
Jerod Mayo
Sebastian Vollmer
Rob Gronkowski
Devin McCourty
Donte Hightower

The 3 exceptions were:

Joe Thuney
Asante Samuel
Chandler Jones

Thuney was a big mistake, Asante was overrated, and Chandler had a few quirks which we all know about.

By and large the Patriots signed their drafted stars.

There were other lesser players who got away like Damien Woody, Deion Branch, Patrick Chung, but none of these players were All-Pros. The top guys got paid for the most part. And everyone here rues the day we didn't sign Thuney because we think of it as a massive mistake.

ALSO: the players above were signed during years when we had multiple All-Pros and the cash was short.

There's no excuse now. We don't have any All-Pros drafted by the team in their 2nd or even 3rd contracts.

If true this would be horrible roster management. I don’t care how Brown plays, given his age I would never prioritize him over Gonzo. Gonzo is significantly younger and better at his position than Brown is to his.

What the Fk are you talking about?
SIck of this fkn jibberish, "Kraft is cheap " C_ntship.
Apparently some forget where we come from.
I'm well aware, I read **** EVERY DAY.

Bah

It's the $59M fully guarantee is what has messed things up. All the other top CB's exceeded each other by $1M-2M. Witherspoon just exceeded it by $9M which it sounds like the Pats don't want to go near.

Trading him now will really weaken this defense that has absolutely no pass rush. The chances of defending their AFC title would greatly diminish. I'd rather have everyone back for one last title run before trading Gonzalez. I don't mind taking a hit in compensation.

This was why there were a good number of posters who weren't in favor of this trade. He is now the priority.

Is your skill set a rare and valuable commodity and of all the people who do what you do, are you the very best at your profession?

Not really, but I'm really good at what I do, so I can get a new job in minutes.
Not sure wtf that matters.
You guys can whine all you want, sick of hearing the garbage about cheap ****.
This man kept the team here on his OWN DIME, when Hartford wanted us on their dime.
I get it, I see it everyday.

BTW, I KNEW the **** I was gonna get, I'm just tired of the narrative.

Counterpoints:

A) That was literally 32 years ago.
B) Ask Hartford about Bob Kraft. They were leverage all the way.
C) He's objectively cheap. Every players survey said the same thing. So did Pete Carroll. So did Bill Parcells. So did Bill Belichick. Sorry, I can't bring myself to give the benefit of the doubt to the guy who's made back his initial investment 1000x over, and has a history, documented, of being cheap.

The fact that you can count the number of times he WASN'T cheap on one hand, tells the whole story. Hell, he even went to a $20 rub and tug for a handy j, instead of spending a few extra bucks to get a professional to come to his jet. I don't know how much more evidence you need.

You guys are good people, Luv ya all.
We just disagree is all.

Seeing reports that we just got the deal done. Waiting for legit confirmation
