I assume this is what they are doing with Daqua or Naquan (on Vikings PS) signing them after the 1st game (Tonga replacement).

I thought Thompson too but we signed so many LBs I am not sure now. If they were intent on Thompson,I doubt they would have signed 3 LBs.

I think it’s the preference for youth. Vrabel is serious about giving young players opportunities and seeing what they can do in response. The waiver claims are on the payroll for three games, Hunter as an FA signing can be cut at any time afaik. So they can give the kids a couple of games and if they don’t rise to the occasion it’s still nbd to cut them and sign a vet. But I think they’ll do well enough to stick.

It’s what he did last year and it worked.
He got rid of veteran starters Pepperd and Duggar and started rookie Woodson from day 1
Campbell and Wilson started.
Henderson split that rb job
Ponder played meaningful snaps.

He let a lot of veterans walk and did so again this year.

He clearly prefers young players he can teach to do those way over old guys with a name you recognize. It’s worked so far.

The Pats put in 5 waiver claims and won all 5 so they rescinded 3 of them. The two guys claimed, Latu and the LB from the Giants, are ST guys (pretty plug and play). Later they signed another of the 5 guys, Hunter (UDFA rookie that I like) as a FA. I agree, Vrabel is getting a look at a lot of guys looking for a few gems, even if only ST gems and backups.

I still think a NT will be signed after Wk 1. Not sure having a non-guaranteed contract is so important that we lose 3 weeks of practicing waiting for game 2.
