He shouldn't be brought back until the knee is fully healed... week 8 9 10 or whatever... let another player take those reps until he is good & ready to go... don't need a Gimpy McKnee out there

There is no reason to be optimistic, but he could be servicable. We don't know. Probably not what he was, but the staff thinks he is better than putting in time with Swinson.

Like Tavai last year, if he is serviceable, he would be a better choice that say counting on Hutchins.

It costs nothing to play Landry this year.

After the season, the team will end his contract which pays him $14.5M of new money for 2027. The $4M of dead money is irrelevant, just what's left of accounting for his signing bonus.

If he is fully recovered, he could be re-signed to a new, lower value contract, more likely not.

Interestingly enough your statement isn't quite true. 15-40% of severe grade 4 osteoarthritic arthritic changes in a knee (bone on bone) are completely asymptomatic. However you are correct that many others can have severe pain and disability and require a prosthetic knee. The correlation between radiographic findings and symptoms in musculoskeletal conditions is poor.

I can't imagine it is helpful to have severe changes as a professional sportsman in the nfl though. They also have a habit of flaring up if you twist them up and bang them, and they take ages to settle again.

We know he had offseason surgery, and there aren't exactly many surgeries for severe knee bone on bone arthritis in people under 50.

A complete guess is he probably some mensical tears in there as well as some degenerative cartilage. They can just trim and suture the meniscus which is a 3 month recovery, but sometimes they drill holes in the cartilage to try and promote healing, or even try and graft a bit of good cartilage on. That's a much longer rehab timeline - 6 months plus. The research suggests return to sport rates are pretty good though.

I've had hope for Landry all offseason, but haven't really had any good news yet.

Yikes! will Landry be able to walk after Football?? I really hope somebody is giving him good advice. We've seen a lot of Players who wished they had walked away earlier because of those chronic injuries.

I agree with this. The starting defence is a elite veteran unit in pretty much every position but olb/edge. Landry has been a 8-12 sack/year guy for several years. A healthy (or even 90%) Landry in the rotation down the stretch, with his leadership to the young guys like Ponder, Jacas and Hutchins can only be beneficial.

Exactly. Let him fully heal. no sense in rushing him back, especially considering the first four teams we face are the hardest part of the schedule because its one tough team after another - sea pitt jax & buff...

We have a week 10 game vs detroit then the bye - a potential week 12 return makes a lot of sense...
