Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

To nobody in particular,

Boutte was leaving either way, and I seriously doubt Vrabel took a lesser offer.

The market sets the price. Not the coach, GM, or the astrological alignments. BB didn’t turn down a golden chest of 1’s for Cassel or Jimmy G, that’s one of the dumbest things foisted upon here and Patriot Nation by hater fools.

The market sets the price. Boutte is only worth a 3rd or 4th if someone is willing to give it up.

Boutte needs a new contract, that drops a 4th round pick value player down to the end of the draft.

Nobody wants to trade for a player, then extend him a massive new contract. It’s bad business. The market sets the price.

Ugh…..WTF….. well I wish Boutte the best of luck and hope he does well but hopefully it won’t come back to bite us….Feel like Pats have wanted to trade him since he got here and he was always on the “outside” having to prove himself. This is an awful trade nonetheless….a 7th rounder in 2028? Might as well just get a back of new footballs…..and Jaylen Reed has been injured a lot since being selected in the 6th round in 25’…..and is safety really an area of need?!

A 7th? What a ****ing joke. Reed better be starter caliber.

He isn’t ….so far ….maybe he will step up And …stay healthy this year, which has been a problem for him

????? Unless Boutte was causing issues behind the scenes — which to our knowledge wasn’t the case — this return looks very, very light. Would rather have kept Boutte and rolled the dice on Chism getting through to the practice squad.
Agreed

Combined the threads? Also unless Reed is good, we sold Boutte for nothing. I was never expecting to get a 4th... but a 7th is low.

I think we likely get just as much if not more if we let him play out his deal this year, become a free agent and get a comp pick. So to me this seems like Reed is the real value. I hope he is worth it.
I guess it may not have been on the table right now, but a fourth should definitely have been doable for Boutté… Especially where Houston is starving for a good receiver… Great trade for Houston

The league has spoken, Maye carried absolute garbage to the Super Bowl.

His WR1 and WR2 both were freely available to the entire league and basically were valued at zero, you don't think he can take AJ Brown, Romeo Doubs + others and make it work?

Fans say Drake Maye is great then act like Keyshon Boutte is a big loss, elite QBs don't miss WRs like Boutte.

Maye can replace the production we just don't know which WR3 is gonna take the chance to change his career.

I hear ya Toof.. let's all take a deep breath and remember he Requested a trade.. we got back a player and a pick.. Boutte went to a good team and will have a chance to flourish there. Hope he gets paid!
Let's be real. Boutte was worth almost nothing to any other team. It seems that no team offered even a 6th. If folks here evaluated Boutte's value on the league close to reasonably, we should have been able to get a 5th from an NFC team.

For a 7th rounder would have preferred the player to be an area of immediate need like depth at lb/dl but maybe they are still eyeing jones and Thompson there. I don’t mind our depth at s but We DO need a developmental safety given byard’s age.

Reed Went from 17% of defensive snaps in the regular season to 82% in the playoffs , so seems like he earned more snaps and allowed the Texans used pitre in a hybrid type role. Or maybe he replaced someone I else i can’t think of but Texans fans seem to like him and most think its a good trade for both teams. They were very deep at safety and we were very deep at wr. boutte is going to do more this year but hes a fa next year. reed has 3 years left on a rookie deal and a chance to be our future at s with woodson.
Apparently, Vrabel doesn't like this backup safety options. Did Pettus, Brown and Saunders really look that bad to Vrabel?

Hi All - I haven't been around much these last few years but will try to be better this season! I had to come on here to say that this trade makes me mad. I like Boutte a lot and was looking forward to him paired with AJ Brown on the field.

I don't like it....even if Jayen Reed is some good...a 2028 7th? WTF?

You would think that the Texans would pony up more for a guy who caught a deep pass vs. Stingley their Pro Bowl CB in the divisional round?

And we better hope there aren't any WR injuries between now and week 1.....

This is what annoys me. S wasn’t high on my list of swap logic. But I’m not in the coaches room.
perhaps not

But perhaps no one offered a player that Vrabel wanted at LB, EDGE or OG.

Had Boutte remained through this season and walked in FA we would have gotten a compensatory pick likely. Instead the team took what Caserio offered them in a pick and a player.. in a perfect world Vrabel should have been adamant on an edge rusher..
that 2028 6th wasn't worth using a roster spot for a year.

We traded:
our pick 187 in the 2023 draft
for
their pick 187 in the 2025 draft plus their seventh round pick in the 2028 draft.

Seems like we got more value back than we sent, based just on the picks right?
What does where we picked Boutte 3 years ago have to do with anything?
Would trading Puka Nucua for a 5th be an even trade because he was taken in the 5th rd of the draft 3 years ago?
