Per The Athletic, Seahags have signed Witherspoon; Gonzo next?

I checked all the top CB's and they are all below 10% of the cap.
I did too. That's why I wrote 7-8%.

But there are years when that average skyrockets.

For instance, Gilmore played in New England for 11.4% one year.

So match the Will Anderson deal and give him 50 million per?
It isn't my money. I don't care. The cap is crap and can be manipulated if the owner is willing to pay so why would I care?

That's a non answer.
I don’t know how you couldn't figure out the answer is yes if need be. I don’t care if they pay him $33 million a year or $50 million. It isn't my money. Cash spending is all that matters in the NFL..

Gonzo needs to just take the win and take the title of highest paid CB as Kraft already said he would. Surtain's deal has been obliterated in less than two years which really shouldn't happen.

I get that it's a business, but these guys are making ridiculous amounts of money these days. It's not like Ty Law back in 1999 when he faced a gauntlet within the division alone. Gonzo hasn't exactly had a difficult path these last few seasons.

Today's players think they are a lot better than they really are. Brandon Aiyuk is another delusional player thinking he's among the league's best in his social media rants.

Then you're an idiot. You can't just give agents whatever they ask for their clients. And although there is flexibility in the cap it's still a real thing, except for morons like Felger and his minions. And all you have to do to realize that is look at what happens to the teams that pretend it doesn't exist, like the Dolphins who had to gut their roster to get back under that cap.

there is a lot of ambiguity in what Kraft said.
signing Gonzo to $35m AAV today, but the contract does not start for 2 years, is perhaps not a good deal for Gonzo, relatively speaking of course.
giving Gonzo $35m AAV today and replacing his current deal, is a great deal for Gonzo, allowing him a shot at another contract before he is 30 years old
we don't know any details, so the comments from RK are meaningless imo

Well, if I wanted to be unkind, I might describe him as a passive aggressive punk, but I am not quite that unkind.
Sounds like you and Christian have a good relationship, cool
You know him that well!

At this point, I blame Gonzalez for the contract not being signed yet, at this point it’s all about greed.

Or teams like the Eagles whose cash spending is over the cap. If you have an owner like Lurie who is willing to put the money up front immediately then you can spread the cap hit over multiple years. The cap increases every year so the bill is never due.

In that case we just need to tell that tightwad Kraft to offer $10 million a year more over market value with escalation clauses for any FA targets going forward.

That stingy-ass billionaire.

Yes, there is a time to have lots of compensation being pushed into the future. We will see that for Maye's contract and for Gonzo's contract.

One way to see the effect of this is to look at caps for 2028. How much of that money is already spent?

Consider the 2028 cap. Should we be pushing lots more into the future with Gonzo's and Maye's contract coming up? We are around the middle. Clearly the cards and te bears can afford to spend.
=========================
The 49's already have $371M committed, more than the estimated cap.
Others are over $300: BUF, BALT, KC

The patriots are towards the middle with $233M.

There are teams who just haven't spent. AZ is at $111M and the bears are at $121M.

Which is why it makes even more sense to pay Gonzo now and front load the deal.

The Eagles don't just give players what they want, and pretty much everyone wants the Patriots to make him the highest paid CB in football, but that's vastly different than giving him Will Anderson money, which is what you want them to do, and would be monumentally stupid.

That list^ is the reason why you can't make Gonzo the Highest paid at His Position. They're other young guys who are just as good.

Nope. His passive aggressive, too-school-for-school ******** is on display very much in public. I do not say it is a reason to let him go or to trade him, but it is certainly a matter wrorhy of consideration in whether we keep him and in how his compensation is configured. Character matters, not only off the field but often ultimately on the field as well. Examples of this are abundant.
