Same with the Titans. The deal is a result of Nissan Stadium needing renovation after 23 years of wear and tear. A provision in the current lease requires the stadium's condition to be kept on par with other sports venues built around the same time.

but renovations and modifications are also an option.
the Pats have done extensive work on Gillette, regularly. It is a model stadium in every way. I am looking forward to the new player poll results.
that said, the owners won't get a better deal, at least from Mass, because they already own the stadium outright.

For all those who say they love sitting in 5 degree wether with 2 feet of snow on the ground and seeing a 3-0 game with fumbles everywhere just to prove how tough they are, I say its BS. For those who say they want to get soaked to the bone and see 3 passes in a game I call BS.

The truthers out there will tell you, lets have a retractable roof, so when its nice out in September and October the roof stays open. But in December and January, 72 degrees and a clear field to watch teh athletes at their best is what Pats fans deserve.

With a retractable domed stadium, maybe some day a SB would come to NE.
Its the 21st century and time to put the comfort of the fans who pay big $$$ first.

How does winning a 3-0 game in mud or slush with the QB going 3-42 prove anything. A good team should win in ideal playing conditions.

However, I would not want to see one penny of public money used to pay for it. The owners should put up every last cent.

Absolutely not, the day they move inside is the day I give up my season tickets, I’ve seen plenty of games with bad weather conditions and the teams actually scored points. Up until 1981 the Vikings may have had the best home field advantage, since moving indoors they haven’t been to a Super Bowl.

Indeed. Even if you could snap your fingers and get something like the Jerrah Dome plopped down in Foxborough tomorrow, why the hell would we want that?

Some of the best visuals I've seen on a TV are of the area around Gillette during the fall colors, even better in person.

As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.

Besides, even if it was free, who would want to live through the mess of a new stadium build? Presumably it'd be done somewhere on the current site, so it'd be damn disruptive.

But could it even be done on the same site? Probably not, so where the hell would they put it? One thing that kept the current stadium affordable was that Kraft already owned the land. Maybe Bob has a big enough site with good enough road access squirreled away, but I really doubt it.

Of course it won't be free so we have the risk that the outcome is the anger Beefalo fans now feel, and the almost certain PSLs that would come along with pretty much every new stadium.

When I visit the stadium I do see tons of good quality stuff, and a few things I think would be nice to be upgraded, but as above, someone needs pay for the upgrades. I'm quite OK with how the Krafts have managed things.

More often than not renovations are nearly as expensive as building new. Concrete cracks and metal rusts. Things move and settle. Yes, many NFL stadiums pour money into fixing and improvements and when they are tallied all up you have spent a considerable amount for an old stadium that will never be new.

I appreciate @Grogan14 's desire for a state-of-the art venue like that, but I think this would be the only reason for it. I think the environment remains an advantage, so it would be hard to imagine them adding a retractable roof just for that. The one area it would probably help them would be during offseason time in terms of attracting more events to utilize the venue more in the winter months, since you could hold more concerts during bad-weather months. Aside from that, I'm not sure it would happen.

I will say that I wouldn't be surprised if we heard something within the next decade about a new venue, given the age (it's 24 years old) - although I haven't looked at the footprint down there, so I'm not sure how a new building would be constructed. Obviously they just built that massive new facility next door, the lighthouse, added suites, etc., so it's clearly not going anywhere for a while.

Maybe they do something where they modify it on the existing footprint like Jacksonville and move the games to Fenway for a season or two - that would potentially be kind of cool and something that I could see them doing to make it interesting. But barring a move to Boston on the water, I'm not sure we'll ever see a roof here in New England.

I don’t think he will, he has spent a lot of money upgrading Gillette the last several years. Who knows maybe Jonathan does play the new stadium card when he takes over. They are making lots of money with Patriot Place being right next to Gillette.

My most treasured memories from 34 years attending games in Foxboro involve snow, wind, heavy rain and bundling up for the cold. For that matter I'll never forget the Pats-Bills game I went to in Orchard Park where gale-force winds tilted the goalpost and literally blew us down into our seats.

The Georgia Dome lasted 25 years, Titans Stadium opened in 1999 and will close on 1/3/27 basically 26 years. They dont build em liken they used to. That's why I urge fans to get to Arrowhead and Soldier field before the wrecking ball arrives.

stadiums do not really wear out... what they lack are the expanding revenue streams of newer stadiums... adding a retractable roof to Gillette Stadium would cost what? a billion? a new open air stadium would cost two billion +/- ... a retractable roof? triple that... is the potential expanded revenue stream great enough to offset the expenditures?

only the Krafts can really answer that ... i personally think its highly unlikely that the team moves towards a new stadium any time soon...
