PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 9

so, we should keep Boutte on the bench in order to give Williams reps.

That is NOT a way to win games by playing your best.
Follow the money.

2025
Diggs - obviously because the Pats lacked a # 1 WR.
Hollins - although he is not being paid a ransom he saw 68% of the snaps and started 13 games.

2026
Brown - big offensive chess piece should the lead the Pats in # of targets et al.
Doubs - you don't pay a guy 18 million (SB + salary) to sit and watch Boutte. Plus, he has per game bonuses worth 1.7 million.

Not saying that Boutte wont play if he is still around, but Doubs is the future.

Agholor was the 3rd most target WR when he signed for more money than Kendrick Bourne and Meyers was making peanuts.

Doubs is going to lose to Boutte and this was an absolutely awful signing.

Trade Doubs June 2nd 2027 if he’s not getting the offense and re-sign Boutte

We need 3WRs, that is the offense we run.
Brown
Doubs
Boutte
Are our best 3 WRs. Doubs doesn’t have to sit and watch Boutte play

Brown, Doubs, Boutte are the 3 starting WRs

Edelman was a slot guy. Playing a little outside late in his career when he and Tom had a unique connection doesn’t change that. He did most of his work in the middle of the field. There’s no rule saying slot guys can’t flex outside.

And slot guys also don’t have to be small as a requirement, they just need to have great agility, the ability to get open in short space and find soft spots in the zone. Jakobi Meyers was 6’2” and did the job well.

Controlling the middle of the field is a tenet of the Ernhardt-Perkins system. It went all the way back to the 80’s Giants with Phil McConkey, up to the Pats and Troy Brown… it was not McDaniels or his system… but the slot position is certainly a thing.

It was largely precipitated by bad weather (snow, rain) conditions and wanting to keep the passing game close to the QB. Outside receivers created the threat with speed and physicality, which allowed slot and TE’s to control the middle of the field. This hasn’t changed.

Bottom line, Brown and Doubs are the best threats outside, Douglas is the best, most difficult cover inside because of agility and explosion. This is why Boutte is behind all three… even if the team forces him into the lineup out of respect.
Every 3wr set had a slot. Very few teams reserve that to be a small quick guy who runs short routes. Most teams interchange all WRs into the slot.

Bottom line, Douglas sat in the bench last year while we used 3 outside receivers and this year we have 3 better ones.

Douglas’ only ability that would get him on the field ahead of these 3 is quick short routes. That will get him PT on 3rd downs like last year, but not in the base offense.

Willliams should have the opportunity to beat him out and get on the field when he does.

Not really, Drake clearly worked from the outside in last year.

Also Douglas started game one as the clear starter in the slot. Nothing happened, so they moved away from him. In the second half of the season his usage increased and he ended up leading the team in receiving in the Super Bowl.

It’s been my contention Drake needs to work on his short game, has to be better recognizing and adjusting to pressure. Part of that is knowing where his hot routes are and who can get open quickly against press and pressure.

Drake and Pop just need to build upon the momentum they started last year.
Yeah let’s turn Drake Maye into Chad Pennington so we can gain fewer yards on pass plays.

Douglas played 17 snaps a game last year. His last 8 games including the playoffs produced 12 catches for 129 yards. His momentum was in reverse

Question for all those ready to write off KW, talking about trading Doubs before he even plays a game for us, undervalue Boutte.

Who is this:

Some WRs take time, and need a good QB to really take off.

Maybe give it sometime before you tear the best WR room we've had in years apart.

Xavier Watts says Hello.
You can pretty much always cherry-pick and point to a better and later draft pick. It's the nature of the draft. Late-round picks are always a long-shot - but even if they are each a 50:1 long-shot, there are a couple of hundred to pick from.
Woodson has been fantastic and his role is growing. He played the most snaps of anyone on defense last year - for a late-round rookie, that is all one could ever hope for.

Once again, Hollins saw 68% of the snaps in 2025. Started more games than Boutte. Saw more targets than Boutte. He is just that guy in a McDaniels offense that goes unnoticed , but contributes.

Vrabes rewards those who are team players and cause no drama. That is not Boutte.

Come one man.
I like Hollins, but what drama has Boutte caused?
Not speculation, give us real examples of him being dramatic.
There is none.

Please tell me that you think Hollins is a better wr than Boutte. Please.

Boutte is a team player and has caused zero drama except that created by drama queens like you.
