PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 9

He’s starting in the slot with the ones in camp, I don’t think his usage will suffer assuming he’s still here.
I'm still not convinced the Pats aren't highlighting him in an effort to get something for him. The 49ers are hurting at WR again.

Some comments on the comments.

1. Not concerned at all with Lomu's tough day. We were told at start that strength and power would be a issue for the 21-year-old, at least for the short run. He needs to learn how to learn to maximize the athletic advantages he DOES have to be the best player he can be today until he matures

2. Boutte has GOT to be on this roster. We should all know by now that in the NFL injuries are EXPECTED and guys who play 17 games are the exception NOT the rule. And over the course of the season you are only going to be as good as you #3 at any position except QB. I would suspect on any given game where Boutte and Doubs are perfectly healthy Boutte will get 20 snaps.

The only way I would let him go would be for another player at a position of need. I think he is more valuable to us than even an early 3rd day pick in a good draft and I doubt we can get a 4th for him, nor should we. But for a dependable starter level ILB, I'd do the deal.
So, I don't give a **** if he wants a trade. He's proving he's a pro and will work hard for the team. I like that in a player. He's better off getting 5 targets a game from Maye, then getting 10 from, say, D Watson.

3. Speaking of ILBs, I'm still a little uncomfortable about the ILB depth after Spillane and Ellis. I was hoping for a vet like the guy the Jets signed, Demario Davis, I think. But then I remind myself that I feel a lot better THIS season than I did last year when almost all the LBs where new or on their way out. It's nice to be like the Rams and have all these name guys at almost every position. But with all the new names we wound up with top 7 defense despite all the question marks. Well, l we have a bunch more this year, plus the 2 guys mentioned.

4. I was with you all last April while we waited what seemed like hours on day for our pick in the 5th round, only to hear we have gotten a Prunty. Christ it sounds like what they would call a **** in SW Wales. Another overdraft of a no name CB who had good size, OK speed, and suspect production. Another Pats pick they sent the draft geeks sprinting for their books to find out how they can explain WHY the Pats draft this kid here.

Well, all the kid had done is stay close to receivers CONSISTENTLY even when they catch the ball. That's an awfully good sign as we look to find a 4th and 5th CB's who can provide quality depth if/when one of our top 3 CB's go down

5. It's very early, BUT I'd day Tanner Arkin starts the week as the guy most likely to be the UDFA who makes the 53 using a simple strategy. "Fimd a need and fill it" Hill's injury had become Arkin's big break and he's making people notice

I hope that this isn't the case for our defense. Our #3's (first off the bench)
Farmer
Muma
Jacas
Woods
Pettus

To be clear, these are NOT our bottom of the roster players. They are our best backups.

Here is where I am right now... and i know going 26 on offense is strange... but i just don't see the 25th defensive guy we need to have nor someone is is clearly pounding the table for Special Teams on that side of the ball.

QB (2) Drake Maye, Tommy DeVito
RB (4) Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Reggie Gilliam, Jam Miller
TE (3) Hunter Henry, Eli Raridon, Tanner Arkin
WR (7) A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas, Kyle Williams, Efton Chism III
C (2) Jared Wilson, Ben Brown
G (3) Mike Onwenu, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Mehki Butler
T (5) Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Caleb Lomu, Marcus Bryant, Dametrious Crownover
ED (5) Harold Landry, Dre’Mont Jones, Gabe Jacas, Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson
DT (5) Christian Barmore, Milton Williams, Joshua Farmer, Cory Durden, Eric Gregory
ILB (4) Robert Spillane, Christian Elliss, K.J. Britt, Chad Muma
CB (5) Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, Marcus Jones, Charles Woods, Karon Prunty
SS (2) Craig Woodson, Mike Brown
FS (2) Kevin Byard, Dell Pettus
ST (4) Brenden Schooler, Bryce Baringer, Andy Borregales, Julian Ashby

Thoughts...

Jam vs Larison is a coin toss. Could go either way.

I have Butler making the cut cause i like the reports from the young guy. I know they are having some OTs play in that spot right now to see how it looks... Maybe they go 6 OTs and a few they feel good about on the interior. and they keep 6 instead of him. Hudson vs Crownover is another battle. I think they go youth if they feel Crownover won't slip to the PS. And i wouldn't feel comfortable about that. Hudson has been fine, but is he that much better than Crownover right now? I am not seeing reports saying so. But could it be Hudson? Absolutely. Right now another coin toss. Bryant i think is 98% safe. But yeah... all eyes on Hudson vs Crownover...

Keeping 7 WRs is a lot... but who do you cut for any of them? I think you either make a trade or you keep them. I am still hoping they trade Douglas for something... I just don't think he adds enough... but when i look at the defense I ask who is the 25th guy you cut for him if that doesn't happen? And i am not cutting Chism either and certainly not Williams.

DT is another bottleneck where we need to cut Pharms who has been here for a while. Maybe he can make the PS for us?

LB... I would love more reports but IDK I guess Britt and Muma. Heard crickets on Obiazor so far.

CB has the top 5 locked. The question is do Dial or Minor give you enough on STs to make it. Did Dial come back from his injury at all? I again have heard nothing from him. At Safety the top 4 seem locked.

Interestingly the last 5 picks of the draft (6th round on) are all in danger of missing it right now. Crownover, Obiazor, Morton, Jammer and Hutchins. And i so far actually think 3 of those picks are working out well so far. Morton i feel okay cutting as I think you can sneak him unless he has an insane preseason. Jammer and Crownover could potential slip to and seem like they would be priorirties if you go that way.

Until i hear someone is lighting it up on ST this is how i see it.

Yep. Now Carolina is feeling it too..Brazzell & Leggette went down.

-- The Patriots are scheduled to conduct a walkthrough in Foxborough on Wednesday from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The session will be closed to fans, as will Thursday's practice. The next workout scheduled to be open to the public will take place on Friday.

7 WR BABY!

We overuse great. It was a good play. It's a play he needs to make for the Pats to be successful.
Agree. Recognizing a defense and changing the play is not a great play. It is expected from a QB. Cam Newton used to do it. If Cam can do it, it can not possibly be great.

Ok so we have Gonzo on AJB: you're telling me nobody else could get open with C Davis out?? Color me a little worried about our First Team Offense.
Color me happy with our backup DBs

Good to teach him check downs are good!
I like that Drake can have a bad series but he looks right past it and turns things around
