Mac Jones Says Patriots Offense Was Run by 3 People and nobody knew who was in charge

But go on down the line on how things were handled aside from Brady.
Cassell and Vrabel for a 2nd?
JimmyG trade? (fleeced)
The market sets the price, not fans, not Bill.

You’re that joker who walks into Pawn Stars with your comic book collection thinking he’s going to get $1000 and they offer you $100.

Alienating Brady with no back up plan
Brady was a free agent and his wife wanted to live in Florida. He chose to leave.

The backup plan was the clear the third most dead cap in the NFL off the books in 2022 and rebuild in 2021 with a rookie QB. They did exactly that, unfortunately the QB the collaboration foisted on Bill sucked.

Yeah, Mac doesn’t have it in between the ears and will never reach that next level.

However, I do think he was put in a bad situation in New England. I don’t think he ever becomes a good QB anyway though.
Mac was in a great situation in 2021 and still fell off a cliff. There were reports BB wanted to move on and trade him after 2021, they probably could have got something then. They probably should’ve taken Davis Mills in hindsight.

The outcome would have been the same as Mills is also not an NFL caliber starting QB. In hindsight they should have traded whatever it took to draft Micah Parsons. That was a game changer.

Davis Mills is a great backup who can give you starts. He played better than Mac in 2021 when both were rookies but Mills was playing on one of the worst rosters in the NFL.

He went 3-0 last year when Stroud got hurt. 5 TD’s to 1 INT. He would have been a much better option than Mac and they wouldn’t have wasted a first round pick on him. They could always draft another QB after, the same way the Texans did.

Like it was with Jones nobody had tape on him and when they did he was benched shortly after IIRC. He's a good backup in small doses but that's about it. I wouldn't draft a guy on day 1 or 2 that I only consider as a bridge or a developmental project (which Mills was at the time)

I would have rather seen them get Parsons and a QB vet like Mayfield if it wasn't going to be Jones or Cam.

Parsons was gone at 12, he wasn’t available at 15.

Mills went to a dumpster fire, Mac went to a team that spent hundreds of millions that offseason to improve. They beat the division champs with Mac throwing 3 passes… the difference between the two teams was the size of the Grand Canyon.

So we keep pretending Mac was “ruined,” but what would have happened if Mills, who actually got the snot kicked out of him in Houston, was drafted and developed by a better team.

He’s tough, a culture guy, better character than the guy who slaps opponents in the junk… the outcome would have been better.

you enjoy dying on the Mac hill?
you have been wrong every step of the way

If they were ever going to trade up in the first round that was the draft to do it. Don't care what it would have cost. Parsons would change the entire complexion of that defense for years to come. Imagine the Pats had Parsons in his prime in SB60.

Bill should have pulled the trigger and given his defensive pedigree I'm surprised he didn't. Otherwise the Mac pick costing no trade assets was fine even if it was "safe".

IMO that game lost him the OROY vote right there even though they won.

Probably the same or almost the same outcome. Mills was a project and the coaching on offense was a dumpster fire.

Neither are good enough to be starting caliber QBs in the NFL.

Also there’s no “may” about it. Bill is not a good coach without Tom Brady and the results back that up in Cleveland, NE and now in college.

What happened to Jones is something we would all laugh at if he was drafted by the Jets.
Matt Cassell.

Helps that Maye is better than Jones at every aspect of the position.
No. Mac is much better at the dirty plays. And emoting. Don’t forget the tears and vulnerable sensitivity that made Mac everybody’s darling.

he was a 1st rd draft pick with a 2nd or 3rd rd grade
who has underperformed. With his third team, failed to make it as a starting QB with any of them.

Three strikes is out. I doubt we ever see him starting again other than when the guy he’s backing up goes down.

Matt Cassell.
I credit the players more for that. Helped to have a roster that just came off a 16-0 season. Still missed the playoffs though because they couldn't beat good teams.

So who was it who put together and coached the rest of team's Brady played with throughout those dynasty years? Or did Brady just do everything, including playing defense, all by himself?

Regarding Maye, there is no need to speculate what Belichick thought. He gave his scouting report of Maye on TV after the pick was made. Not positive….
FWIW, ChatGPT 5.6 Sol thinks Maye will be a perennial MVP candidate, and of all the QBs selected in his draft, has the best chance at a stellar career, even after some of his athleticism departs. The primary concern ChatGPT has is Maye's willingness/ability to avoid big hits. All of his other traits are elite.
