PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp Day 3

They want to go with the younger players by default.

Hudson can probably do the job, but he seems like a career journey player.
Caeden Wallace is young, the phrase was “younger, better, cheaper.” The emphasis was on “better.”

Competition will do the work. The cream will rise to the top, the best players will earn roster spots and play. Has happened this way for a century or more.

It would not surprise if Hollins sees reps in that 2nd or 3rd TE slot, allowing them to also keep another WR
I also saw that WIlliams is behind most of the others, and has a tall climb up. Do they keep him based on potential? or are WR's like him always there in the 3rd and 4th rd?
same with Chism. it seems every season since Bill came into town, there has been a guy like Chism brought in with later round picks or as undrafted free agents, and show some. but at the end of the day, their upside is somewhat limited, and guys like that are always around and available.
I can’t see anyway they give up on KW this early.
Can you get a WR like him in the 3rd every year…maybe. Could it take you 10 WR picks to eventually get the right guy in the 3rd, sure can.
I can’t see anyway he’s not on this team this year.

I also had 7 WR’s on my offseason roster prediction. If some/any/many of these guys can contribute on special teams more than just return guys, they could roster more WR’s.

These guys often played two ways in high school, some even college… they can block and tackle also.

Williams being 7th on the depth chart is meaningless now. Even if they roster an extra WR, barring injuries there will still be a roster crunch at the position and some will be on their way out the door. Assuming Williams worked hard this offseason I’d say he’s a lock.

AI says 93% of third round picks are with their original team for the second season.

Williams rookie season was modest, but certainly enough that he is in the majority camp.

we did see KW return some KO's last season. but personally, I like a 3rd or even 4th RB in that role. Miller, Larison.
not saying KW will not be on the roster, but other positions have to go light imo to roster 7, or trade one of the 6 in front of him.
for example, carrying 2 TE's and seeing Hollins in that spot as the 3rd TE

I think the 3rd RB will be the KR, the play most resembles a run play now the way it’s blocked. A more physical player is better suited for the job. It speaks to how much they respect Chism’s toughness.

Some guys will only play offense, AJ Brown for example.

But reality is Hollins, Boutte and Douglas are in a contract year. Even if they only carry two TE’s due to Dippre’s health for example, there will still be someone leaving and it probably won’t be one of the young guys under contract.

I could see this happening. A combination of Hollins and Lomu could play that third TE role… Hollins basically did the same job last season as a blocker.

If Dippre can’t get over his mystery offseason injury there may be no choice. They have an abundance of tackles and WR’s and necessity is the mother of invention

He reminds me of Bethel Johnson who gives you a couple big plays per season. If he doesn't make noise this season, he's most likely never going to.

Besides speed, nothing like Bethel. KW runs better routes, has good hands, and YAC ability.

Pop will be on someone's roster. He can separate as well as anyone in the league. Drake just doesn't seem to like throwing him the ball.

I was going by Bedard today who says he's moved ahead of Hudson, and also by the way they lined up yesterday.

As posted here: The #Patriots second offensive line in warmups: LT - Marcus Bryant LG - Ben BrownC - Andrew RupichRG - Caedan Wallace RT - Caleb Lomu
That was yesterday. Today Bedard has him as one of his downs.

That's fair enough. Bedard can't predict the future.

Said good things about the offensive line and James Hudson.

Yeah...I think the one constant could be Boutte on the outside. I don't think his ankle will ever allow him to be productive in the slot like he was at times in college. Brown can play X, Y or Z and disguising what they are going to do with him is going to be a thing. IMO Doubs can play Z or Y but then again....putting him at X could be a wrinkle that teams might not expect. It will be fun to see how it plays out during the games.

Sure wish we had our next Troy Brown/Welker/Edelman/Amendola in the building too; think of the 4-Wide looks on certain passing downs...

Another thing interesting is that they are listing their starting defense as a nickel defense rather than a base 3-4.

Those are their best 11 defenders, and it's not even remotely close. So Nickel it is.

I really, really hope Hudson doesn't make the 53. If he does, then we've either had an injury or one of Bryant/Crownover failed to impress.

I'm hoping for a Backup 5 of Bryant - Lomu - Brown - Wallace - Crownover. Neither Hudson nor Rupcich belong on the 53 of a Legit contender at this point in their careers; and the rest of them are worthless Trash.

He has everything we look-for in a Slot WR... So why hasn't he taken more snaps there; or am I missing something?

Edit: Something else favoring Pop in the Slot: A 7.05 3-Cone time at his pro day.
