Patriots Rumor Tracker / FA Signings (Updated: Signings in OP - 4/7)

Clowney didn't sign with Dallas until September 14th of last year. So, after week 2. And he STILL did well for the Cowboys as a pass rusher.
Yup - if I'm Clowney I'm happy to wait until later in camp when the bidding will only go up for him, not that he's demanding top dollar alone at this point.

He's not the type of guy who even needs a camp if he's staying in shape.

Still I'd rather sign him now and let him sit out our entire camp just to keep him healthy for the season.

I think that the Pats are done brining in vets unless a major injury occurs.

The clear message was to make this team younger so they could sustain a long run.

And yes. I'm saying this as someone who wanted a LB like Okereke or Devin Bush.

Every team wants to get younger, cheaper and better.
We take these statements far too literally.
Every NFL team supplements its roster with vets on short deals, we are no different.
If you wanted to take such a broad statement as gospel, then we never would have signed Byard.

Yeah.. Because nothing the Pats did SUPPORTS the idea that they wanted to get younger.

Look at all the guys they let removed from last year's team:
Tavai (29), Diggs (32), Bradbury (29), Dobbs (31), Gibson (28), Hooper (31), Durant (28), Tonga (30),

Outside of Byard and Brown, feel free to list all the players older than 29 that they've added to the team.

Try reading what's ACTUALLY said instead of what you think is said. You'll do far better with your rebuttals.

You said what you said.

"I think that the Pats are done brining in vets unless a major injury occurs. The clear message was to make this team younger so they could sustain a long run."

The Pats were just ranked the best roster in the NFL for players 25 and younger.
Adding one vet doesn't suddenly change that.

Id be looking to make a trade with the Cardinals. Be proactive getting a better DE or TE. Boutte and a pick for josh sweat or
Zaven colins and Tip reiman for boutte + a 4
Heck I might give em boutte and a 3 for those 2

what is the fascination with Clowney. Has he ever helped any team win anything?

Is that his fault?
He had 8.5 sacks in 13 games last year playing only 44% of defensive snaps.
Oh, and he’s an excellent run defender.
He would make the team better, period.

With increasing talk about Jacas having a red shirt year, that's generally why you are hearing concerns about EDGE

If that is the case, Jacas will be advised not to sign and he'll re-enter the draft in 2027. It's a bad move for both parties at this point.

Just the fact that he came into Dallas after the start of the season and proceeded to lead the team in sacks for only $3.5 million.

That's some decent bang for the buck when you consider that's more sacks than Chaisson had, and he signed for $11 million for one year and matches Landry's total for us last year.

With Jacas looking less likely to play, a move for an affordable pass-rushing specialist would be wise for depth and certainly not break the bank.

Myles Garrett had 5 sacks against the Pats last season....his team almost lost by 3 TD's. One lone defensive player can't be expected to carry a team. Garrett was already feared playing on a loser, now imagine him with leads and QB's in obvious passing situations?

Clowney is nowhere near Garrett's level, but he'd be a solid addition who's barely played on contending teams during his career. 2023 Ravens was the only team reaching the AFCCG. Also, the he's always been a solid run defender which is something NE is lacking along the edge.

How does that work? Would we get a supplemental pick?
Good question. Pats lose their pick. That's why the Pats have motivation to get something done. It's too late to "red shirt" Jacas and I'd be pissed if I were the Pats seeing Breer even suggesting this. Jacas could get scared off and not want to sign.

August 10th is the deadline the Pats can trade him if this drags on. If that passes, Jacas has gained a lot of leverage.

Ugh. That sucks. I confirmed.

You'd have to assume that Jacas has lowered his trade value and if he holds out to the 2027 draft its highly unlikely he goes as high as he did this year and it lowers his rookie contract value.

Any team looking to trade for him would likely only be offering peanuts. Literally peanuts.

I think the whole uproar about Jacas is getting crazy. Suggestions we should just eat the second round pick, throwing it away because some folks got their panties in a twist just doesn’t make sense.

And the team could easily red shirt Jacas, sign him, designate him PUP and leave him there until it converts to season ending IR.

So much noise devoid of meaningful content about him. It’s going to get resolved, let’s just wait to see how.

I’m sure he and his agent are well aware of that.

Relax. Something will get done. He’ll be signed within a few days.

Unless he has a career ending injury, the team should sign to the terms negotiated by the union. He can then put on PUP or IR.

We could trade him, but I suspect that we won't get much.

Even if he can't play this year, he could have a future with the team.

There are to the best of my knowledge no terms negotiated by the union for injury guarantees or exclusions, so those have to be negotiated as part of the individual contract agreement. That’s the crux of the problem.

End of the day, it’s the player’s future health and well-being that’s on the line. To the team it’s only money.
