PATRIOTS NEWS Mandatory Minicamp 6/9-11

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
I think mcdaniels realized last year that demario wasn't a traditional NE slot guy. Maybe a field stretching slot. 1.47 10 yd split is elite. 4.44 40 39.5 vert 11'2 broad he might be on that troy brown Jules development timeline. Its been stated here already but the pats should wait til the end of training camp to make any move in case of injury. Whoever earns the spot earns it. Building a team a group of 5 or 6 wrs arguments can be made for boutte, demario, chism obviously mack and Kyle too. I was kinda gunning for NE to bring back diggs because he has all that experience and can play exclusively in the slot with AJ just opening up lanes. While i think it would work in a big way for drake it's not necessary I'm confident in the group here and would like to see more funds allocated to another edge, blocking TE and LB

1. I am and have been a big Boutte supporter

2. Boutte hasn't had to fight in a talent-crowded room yet.

It's hard to feel confident on his worth knowing that. Say he plays for the Pats this year, when we have Brown and Doubs. Would Boutte have as much opportunity/yards?

Probably not; but unless Stephon Diggs is walking through that door again, then what's best for the New England Patriots right now is that Booty remain inside the building as insurance for AJB/Doubs and as competition with Hollins for the #3 spot. I like keeping good players - especially at this position, after all these years - for as long as I can keep them.

It’s not cut and dried.
He has not been a distraction and a grouse in the media, saying he could be is speculation.
He hasn’t had snaps and a starting position taken away from him yet.
If the UDFAs were as talented as you suggest, they would have been drafted. They went undrafted for a reason, and probability would suggest they are far more likely to never start an NFL game than be serious contributors, they are destined for the PS at best to start the season.
Nonsense, like Welker and Amendola weren’t talented enough either?
As I stated, a trade would make sense if KW has made a leap.
Far from cut and dried.
Even if he doesn’t, the team continues to add talent to try to improve their overall roster and Boutte while solid is limited.

you keep him because he backs up TWO key players on your roster with a skill set no one else except those 2 players have. Williams doesn't have a similar skill set. He is different WR. He has a skill set you need, but not one to replace AJ or Doubs if either go down.
You are only as good as your best back up in this league, whether it's at OT, LB or WR, etc
Backups have to contribute on special teams to be active on gameday. They can always find another backup, Boutte isn’t special.

I believe AJB or Doubs could play the slot, and thrive. Boutte out wide along with them would work

Nonsense, like Welker and Amendola weren’t talented enough either?
Thanks for making my point.
Welker was signed as an UDFA by San Diego and was cut. Picked up by Miami and had 29 rec his first year.
Amendola spend time on 2 teams Practice Squads before making an active roster, including his complete rookie year on the Cowboys PS.
So yes UDFAs can contribute, but the chances of ours contributing this year are historically remote, and will probably spend their whole year on the PS.
And I never said they were untalented, I said they went undrafted for a reason. They need development.
You're starting to enter Ring territory here where you take a statement made by a poster and interpret it the way you choose.

I'll spare everybody the "Big boutTAY... TAY... TAY" clip, but only to substitute...

Boutte is not special, you are right. But Boutte is not average or a JAG either. Boutte is the type of above average depth every team needs. If some team overpays Boutte in 2027 FA then the Pats have to let him go, but if it is a reasonable contract, sprinkle in some guaranteed money, and keep Boutte.

Some clarity, thank you.
His argument that Boutte isn't special, but our UDFA's are?
They may turn out, but again, the probability is far greater they are never serious NFL contributors than the chances they are better than Boutte.
And yet again, I am not against trading Boutte, I just completely disagree that it is "cut and dried".
That statement implies it's a done deal and he is gone, and that is very far from a certainty.

Agreed really feeling like this training camp is going to be very interesting. As I can easily see AJ, Doubs, Boutte as the primary wr in 3 wr sets.. with Hollins, Williams and pop sprinkled in.

But if Williams is outplaying Boutte in training camp what do you suspect happens?

He's not a 1, he's not special as a 2 but viable, and he's pretty good for a 3. To have him and Pop on rookie deals fighting for the 3-4 area, with the possibility always there of Kyle Williams turning scary... I dunno, that's kind of special. Overall, we've got the best depth in the league if we can keep it... and I think maybe we can. I think people are going oh shooooot, the Pats are extremely serious about this and Maye looks like a serious contendah for next great quarterback... this is something to be a part of. I could even see having to find a way to wedge Diggs back into the fold.

I agree. Great post.

The Pats signed four UDFA WRs, one-third of the 2026 UDFA class, so there must be a reason for so many signings (or singings ). The Pats are concerned about losing Boutte and/or Douglas? Injury concerns?

I do like the Pats approach. Sign multiple athletic kids from lower conferences looking for a late bloomer. Some guys mature late and they are great value.

Following the ankle injury in college, Boutte's issue is separation (athleticism). I think he does everything else well. Williams does not lack athleticism. In the NFL athleticism always triumphs. If Williams can pick up Josh's system and run the routes well, he has to be WR #3 (Hollins will still play a lot because he blocks and has the height Drake loves).

This is not a popular opinion, but I doubt Diggs resigns (ego), and I am scared to death AJB slowly declines over the season due to the knee. We will see. Maybe I am a Karen.

That's where I was disappointed in our later round draft picks.
There were a lot of very good athletes available, high risk/reward that we passed over.
I sincerely hope our UDFAs do make a leap and we can turn Boutte into a draft pick, but I'm far from confident that any of them will make that leap in their rookie year.
It can happen, but it's a very remote possibility.

The Pats were not impressed with this year's later rounds in the draft. We have to trust the scouts and management.
