OT: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs reportedly agree to reworked contract valued at more than $500 million

Mahomes is 20th in the NFL in passer rating since his refs were fired by the league. What more needs to be said? He’s Kermit the Fraud.

As for Maye - once you believe you’ve hit on your QB the window opens right away. It has to and we need to take advantage of it. Nothing better in this league than having a great cost controlled QB.

Which they only have for this year and next year. He's getting at least $44M in 2028.

So…$64MM a season. Assuming that isn’t the cap number because that’s like 20% of the cap on one player .

Oof…doing business in the elite WB era is becoming cost prohibitive. Drake likely gets close to that if not $70MM/yr
Mahomes is the only QB to EVER carry a team to the SB while accounting for more than 14% of the salary cap. He did it twice. I can't blame KC for trying again.

I would hate to see what the dead cap will be by the end. Its going to be crazy how many years they will need to reset the cap after PM is gone.

I agree. Trying to push Brady out and not maximizing his final year was a massive mistake. They had one more Super Bowl left in them from 2019 to 2020. The good news is, it only took the Pats 5 seasons to get back to the Super Bowl. Nobody expects another 20 year Dynasty, but I think this era of the Pats can be a more successful version of the late 90's Pats. Those late 90's teams had injuries and bad personnel moves which derailed that era.
And people STILL keep ignoring the fact that the Pats roster had begun to deteriorate during the last half of 2019 as age, injuries, and the cap did its work. Brady was NOT going to win another Superbowl in NE without going through a complete rebuild of the roster. They choose to ignore that in 2020 they paid their starting QB ONE Million dollar as STILL barely made it under the cap in 2020.

So, in the end even if they somehow paid Brady the very reasonable price of $25MM for the next 2 years, the cuts they would have had to make to get under the cap would have FURTHER weakened the thin talent pool they had back then. The 20 year era of the Pats being every year Superbowl contender was over guys and even Brady wasn't going to save it. And why would he want to. WHY would he want to play out his last year or two NOT being on a team with a legit chance of being in contention for a title. It would have been a miracle just to get that roster to the playoffs with that roster, AND the GOAT, and you all know it.

Plus, Brady was done in Boston. His wife didn't want to be here. They had sold their home here the year before. His time with BB had come and gone, so why would Brady want to sign a $25MM deal even if it were possible to be offered to him. Tampa and a great OL, a solid run game, and once Gronk unretired, the best group of WR's and TE's in the league, PLUS an offensive coaching staff he could control. Compared to what the Pats had, there was no contest

So, I wonder why the myth evolved that Brady was chased out by Kraft and BB, rather than the TRUTH, which was simply, it was Brady's best interests to leave the Pats and finish up his career with a team that could compete for championships. NO ONE chased him out of town.

The narrative Mahomes is toast/wahed is pushed too much imo. However the people still thinking he is a week in week out elite player are wrong too. Multiple things can be true at once. Here are things I believe about Mahomes.

1 He can at any week or for even a string become the best QB in the NFL. That upside still exist.

2 His offensive talent and scheme are not as fearsome as they once were. The talent is only pretty good and the league has seen the scheme too often and copied parts of it. No one falls for the delayed TE route or shuffle pass the way they use to when they were more innovative. The play calling is still good but nothing surprises much anymore.

3 Still one of the most dangerous big play QBs in the league. But can't do that stuff like he use to.

4 After his first read is taken away he gets into trouble quickly. He use to compensate for this with talent around him, and his break of structure ability. Both declining have hurt this and made him reliance on his first read more noticable.

5 The ACL will matter with him more than most QBs. We are going to see issues this year and maybe the rest of his career due to it.

6 There is decline, but he isn't washed.

He is still a guy who I don't wanna see in a playoff game. But fear less in the regular season. After 2028 when we see how he is a full year plus removed from his ACL, I may change my mind on his much I fear him in the playoffs

He is playing this season as I predicted and KC will be in the 2026 SB.

Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL today and like Brady, youre never out of the game with him.

The math is clear on this ^

Chiefs for life like Brady should have been a Patriots for life thanks BB. Can't wait for the known Homer's to knock this deal.
It's a terrible deal. He's on the decline as most mobile QBs are. This won't age well for them.
