This is our best WR group since what year?

I think even national media is overrating our WR group. This AJ news is a big story for early June, but we have to be objective.

Diggs was our entire WR threat last year. No one was afraid of anyone else. So we're basically just replacing him with AJ.
And AJ is likely 25% better than Diggs, but was not feared last year either. He is noticeably slower than he was.
So, this could be one of the best WR rooms, but a lot is dependent on how Doubs works out (not looked good so far) and how KW develops and actually produces on the field as the speed element.
25% better than Diggs I would go 40% based on age and statue alone. A.J. was not happy in that Phillly Offense built around Saquan Barkley. He's going be a Monster with Maye.

what does it mean to be afraid of a WR? meaningless.
find the mismatch. catch the ball. get 1st downs. score td's.
AJ Brown does that. Boutte does that. Henry does that. Henderson and Stevenson do that.
I dont care about being afraid or not. make plays. we have targets that do that.

1986
Morgan had 84 receptions, 1491 yds, 18 YPC
Fryar had 43 receptions, 737 yds, 17 YPC

In terms of pure talent, this tandem is in a class only matched by Moss and Welker.
I think late 70's-early 80's Morgan, Jackson, Francis is tough to beat.

In 1986 we could not run the ball, due to Hog's retirement and CJ/TC injuries. The one thing Tony Eason could do is throw the ball. As we all (should) know, there's a lot more to it than passing stats. A lot more.

We're Boston sports fans. Which means we're spoiled rotten.

In every decade of the Patriots' existence, we've had great receivers...Gino obviously belongs in Canton...

And we've had great quarterbacks to throw to them.

I think we'll be okay this year, my biggest concern as always is our failure to commit to the run.

Two (2) total carries by Henderson in the first half of the Super Bowl is fatal. I still don't know who the Seahawks guy is but they didn't abandon the run after he got stuffed a couple times and the guy wins the MVP and the game. Instead of TreVeyon.

Slot WR's weren't popular in the 90's, but Troy Brown was very dependable when called upon.

Brisby was never the same after the 1995 season. Made some nice plays when was able to play from 1997-1999.

Tony Simmons should some promise in 1998 as a rookie, but declined the following two seasons.

Doubs has flashes, but overall has been pretty mediocre as the primary WR in GB. I do want to see Williams push for a lot of playing time.

No good secondary was even afraid of Stefan Diggs. Many posters got triggered when I said it as early as the first month of the season, but he was absolutely cooked like 1999 Terry Allen. It took Diggs 17 games to barely muster 1,000 yards when most of his yards came against bad teams and/or secondary's. That's why he was cut and still available at his age.

Even when given time by the OL, Diggs got bullied in the playoffs.
Doubs reminds me of Brisby. Can't remember what his injury was, it happened in the 1996 pre-season. And he was never close to the production from his first 3 years after that.

On June 4th?

I think the floor might be our '94 group of receiving targets. We got guys who are all capable of at least 50 receptions.

Bledsoe hooked up with Coates, Brisby, Timpson, LeRoy Thompson, and Kevin Turner (RIP).

Although I hope we don't have the league worst rushing game to go with a top passing offense!

d%#*!@t, Butts!

Best since moss/welker. You have a legit #1 and i feel like doubs is going to be a very good #2 for us. Already was excited to see him with maye and now that we have aj this will be his first time playing with a true 1. Hollins/pop/boutte(if here)/williams have always been good secondary options and can now function as that.
Donte Stallworth shouldn't be overlooked on that 2007 team either, he was a deep ball threat that helped keep opponents honest.

We'll see. Our wr group was good enough to win it all last year. Our offensive line was average at best and was garbage in the playoffs against the better teams. If our line doesn't improve I would say that our offense is possibly worse without Diggs who killed it in the slot.

The OL should be better, Drake Maye should be better at recognizing and dealing with pressure, and lastly the FB's, RB's and TE's should be better at blocking. It wasn't simply the OLine failing in the Super Bowl, it was a combination of all three of these things.

As far as the WR room goes, we don't even know who will be there in camp, or who will shine among the many young guys. It could be a very deep talented group, especially if some of these UDFA's show up to compete.

How do you rate Doubs though? I think he's flying under the radar. Who in the past 10 years (JE aside) was better than Doubs is? My main point is we suddenly have 2 proven studs.
When we signed Doubs and let Diggs go the talk on here was questioning whether Doubs was equivalent to Diggs, or a downgrade and how much of a downgrade. And now he’s a “proven stud” who is the best WR we’ve had in the last ten years, even though his stats last year look pedestrian compared to Diggs last year?

I agree that Doubs was and should be compared with Diggs and is likely to be about the same value in 2026, perhaps a bit less.

That leaves us with Brown taking Boutte place in the top 3 2026 WR grouping.

Boutte, Diggs, Hollins becomes
Brown, Doubs, Hollins

Brown is huge upgrade over Boutte in this trio. The backups are likely to get even fewer reps than in 2025.

We will continue to disagree on which WR's will likely get more the remaining 2-5 targets a game.

It might be the best since 2007, but that's more about the bar being set really low than about this group being extraordinary. Brown is in the top 10 in the League, but at the end of that list, and Doubs is average for a League starter. The rest of the guys are serviceable players in the NFL. That's not an elite group; its just functional (finally) for a team with championship aspirations.

I don't get the Doubs Stud talk either he's not better than J Meyers.

I am more hopeful about Doubs now that it's a given he isn't the projected #1. With Brown healthy, I am looking forward to the next few WRs thriving.

I'm going on record and say if we keep Boutte he'll have a better year than Doubs. I think we overpaid for Doubs he was not my First or Second choice. But it is what it is.
Doubs just a guy. woulda preferred bringing back Diggs

Give it a couple years and I'll get in the bear suit
lmao, I thought that movie was underwhelming guess that’s a hot take. Seemed from the start it was going to be a lot scarier than it ended up being

Who called Doubs a stud?

I’d say a slightly faster Meyers is a very good comparison… and that’s a very good player to have opposite AJ Brown.
agree, and I'll take that all day long as our #2 receiver
