Camp surprise cut discussion

Yeah, that's my guess, unless some team decides to part with draft capital for Boutte.

And we'll always have the Houston catch in the playoffs, but his life-long forever war with the turf monster is going to be his undoing, here.

There's usually one every season. Both a surprise cut and a topic here lol

With AJB on board someone will have to lose in the WR competition in camp. I'm leaning toward Hollins being the surprise cut and I'd hate to see him go. He's 32 though and Vrabel said he wants to go younger. Could be Boutte but I think they could try to trade him instead. I wonder how safe Bryant's spot is up front.

You are a complete idiot if you think there is a chance Boutte gets cut. He either gets traded or plays out his contract well enough for us to get a comp pick. Absolute idiocy to cut him and get nothing.

Pats have 4 picks in the 6th round of the 2027 draft
I could see a deal including Pop or Boutte, plus a 6th, for a pick or a player
I still see LB, CB and now TE as area's where additional depth would be nice.

Teams usually carry 5 to 6 WR on the 53 man. I see Brown, Dobbs, Williams, Hollins, Douglas and possibly a UDFA getting some playtime. Chism is PS or gone, Boutte is gone because he is now redundant.

If they can't trade them, there will be some cuts at WR. There are simply too many of them barring injury.

Boutte, Hollins and Douglas are free agents next season. Something's got to give.

I said I think they could try to trade him or is reading comprehension not your strong suit? And if they cut him? That's a surprise just like the topic says. They're not keeping a guy on the roster for the purpose of getting a comp pick which they may or may not receive anyway.

I dont get the comments about redundancy.
Brown is clearly the X. Doubs imo is the slot guy
someone has to play outside oppo Brown.
is the staff giving that spot to a player? or do the players have to earn that spot?
if the team is 8 and 3, and Brown needs to drain his knee and miss a week or two, who do you want on the field? Chism? Dixon?

I get your point. I still think he is gone because he doesn't want to be a back up and has asked to be traded (unofficially). If Dixon, Kibble or Degennaro look serviceable in any way shape or form I think he gets his request. I like the guy and he was clutch more than once. I would love for him to stick around and be happy about his role with the team, I'm just not sure that will happen.

I agree. I think a lot of this will become clear when we get to (mandatory) training camp, and certainly by cut-down day.

I like Boutte and would not want him to languish on the bench here. I hope another needy team would step up and give him an opportunity. All he does is CATCH THE BALL. An unappreciated in skill in Foxboro.

Injuries during camp often have a way of working this out. Either on the Pats or on other teams and then trading.

Physical. If healthy fine. I'm not convinced he will be.
cutting Landry serves no purpose. his money is guaranteed. the savings is very minimal.
if he is not 100%, the Pats would be better served IR'ing him after the initial 53, and designate him to return when he is 100%

I've never seen a punt returner/slot wr battle against the turf the way Pop does. For that alone, he is always a potential cut imo.

He is fantastical in camp without pads. This has been apparent since he's been in the league.

If he is injured they can’t cut him they would have to out him on IR.

That’s what they said about young James White.

I gave a lot of patience for players with tools that haven’t put it together yet.
Pop also strikes me as one of the dimmest of the bulbs, so that could be holding him back too.
Chances he busts out are low, but they are there.
