There's usually one every season. Both a surprise cut and a topic here lol

With AJB on board someone will have to lose in the WR competition in camp. I'm leaning toward Hollins being the surprise cut and I'd hate to see him go. He's 32 though and Vrabel said he wants to go younger. Could be Boutte but I think they could try to trade him instead. I wonder how safe Bryant's spot is up front.

Hollins is a great locker room presence and fan favorite and doesn't take up much cap space.

He also occasionally lined up as a blocking TE last year as he's got some good size at 6'4"

With Hill going on IR they may want to have him there again as he's a good blocker and a legit receiving threat. so he's kindof a two-fer in terms of covering roster spots now (though I think Crownover might be used as a blocking TE with Hill out too)

I would think Boutte is more likely to be traded than cut though we'd not get any great draft picks in return - just better to trade to keep him away from an AFC East team.

I don't believe Hollins is going anywhere.
The only receiver who would truly be a surprise would be Kyle Williams.

Ben Brown would be a surprise cut. So would Morgan Moses.

But, when I think of this team, I don't see many moves that would be surprises..

Because the premise is SURPRISE I’ll try that angle:

1. Morgan Moses. Wild, I know. But…if Lomu (or crownover) surprises and they feel he can step in and be serviceable , I could see a trade or release of big Mo. unlikely, but again…you said surprise.

2. Christian Ellis. Again, would be shocking BUT his cap # is surprisingly high ish and despite speed, I don’t think he’s spectacular. What makes this shocking though wouldn’t be the cut, it would be that a 6th round rookie beat him out.

3. Barmore. This would be trade vs cut but his attitude has always concerned me. Plus production hasn’t exactly matched contract. Issue is, who replaces him?

Looking through dead cap hits, it's either Pop or Boutte, and cutting Pop saves a couple hundred grand more

Moses is a relatively low cap hit, but he's not making much anyway.

Barmore's dead cap is 22 million.

not for nothing, but Moses cap hit is $10.4m. if cut, the team saves $4.5M against the cap

cutting Barmore saves $1.5m in cap space

neither are worth cutting, simply for cap space.

if cut, Hollins saves $4.4m against the cap. I like Hollins, but certainly Brown, Doubs are 1 & 2, and they are not cutting Williams (yet).
imo it comes down to Hollins or Pop (Boutte traded) and Pop does not play ST, Hollins does.

The dead money is just the remainder of their signing bonuses; it's $47K for Boutte vs. $33K for Douglas. The savings from trading/cutting either them is the same (they both got the escalator, which per the CBA cannot be guaranteed).

There's obviously been some media speculation about this too but with Boutte likely being traded I'd think there's room on the team for him - 31 catches in traffic for the guy was pretty impressive to me. The little guy had a few big plays as a 3rd option for Maye sometimes sneaking deep too.

Very little cap savings in cutting him though I think we're all just looking at the numbers game on the roster knowing that there will be some tough cuts.

Here again, do the guy a favor and trade him rather than cut him to make sure he doesn't end up with the Jets or Fins, even for a 6th round pick.

But again, 31 catches on 47 targets isn't bad nor is his 3 TDs, 58 yard long play, and the fact that Maye did seem to trust him with some tough must make throws - so I'm hoping they keep him.

trading (or cutting) Boutte saves $3.6M against the cap

FWIW, trading/cutting Pop saves the exact same amount.
yes.
I was referencing Boutte/Pop/Hollins, that Hollins plays ST...
Boutte "might" return the most in a trade of the 3
Boutte "might" have the most potential upside

Maye, to Philly. "I wan't all my picks back, and a punt returner. "

I still think it’s Douglas

AJ Brown..
