Patriots Injury News TE Julian Hill placed on IR (Vrabel confirms he's lost for 2026)

Way to go Eliot, you f-f-****ing m-m-moron. Today is the Beginning of your End here.
You can’t blame a GM for not knowing the guy was going to get injured.

IIRC players on IR still count toward the 90-man(*) roster limit. I believe they released someone last week to provide the roster spot Brown filled.

(*) Or 91-man, since the Pats have an international player.
Once a player is IRed, they no longer count against the 90.

The player they released on 5/20 was Niko Lalos and his spot was taken by Travis Shaw.

Hated the signing useless I wanted both Sam Roush and Raridon.
Of course you hated the signing. You're an idiot who has no clue what talent looks like. You only care about "SHINY".

How on earth did bro get hurt already? NFI?

Well, there’s time of they feel like blocking TE still needs another body. He wasn’t going to catch a lot of balls. You can find a blocker.

Players get hurt during OTAs. This isn't the first player to do so. Gunner Olszsewski just blew out his Achillies on the 29th. Roy Robertson-Harris blew out his Achilles the week before.

We shall see. Right now, according to their website, they currently have 91 players on the payroll, counting Hill.

Ironically, the NYG just signed Braxton Berrios.

The Patriots.com Website is notoriously awful at updating the roster. It's why I started tracking it myself.

91 includes Loren Metz, the International Player who has an exemption.

Ironically, this is how the Patriots website currently lists Hill. Which means he doesn't count against the 90.

just to clarify, with the assignment to IR coming now, Hill CANNOT be designated to return this season.
Hill could be given an injury settlement, released, and after waiting the obligatory number of weeks, could play this season for another team.
not for nothing, Hill signed for 3/$15m, with $7.5m guaranteed
clearly he was a roster lock, and someone the team appeared to want to game plan around in given situations

We should Trade for Bears TE Cole Kmet.

I like Kmet, but the team did invest some draft capital in Raridon.
I am also interested in what Dippre can do.
I wasn't a fan of Westover, but seeing how he was used last year, I could also see Gilliam in more a move spot.

Think they would trade him? What would it cost? Keep in mind, we still need to re-sign gonzo then maye... Not sure that move would be a wise one to make

Wait until the end of camp when teams are cutting down to 53, some vet will get cut loose or available in trade for peanuts. If they even need a TE by that point, assuming health I have some faith in Dippre and Raridon... but it's thin.

He has been a disappointment to say the least.

Lets roll with a different ND product Eli Raridon - 6' - 7" 225 lbs. My ND buddy is very high on him.

Texans LB EJ Speed is also gone for 2026 tearing his quadriceps.

I remain confused. There seems to be a lot of certainty in both directions, but no actual citations of the rule. This is what I've found in multiple interpretations: A player placed on injured reserve (IR) before the start of training camp (i.e., during the offseason or before final roster cuts) can still be designated to return later in the season, provided the team follows the NFL’s roster and IR-return rules in effect that year (minimum missed games/time and the team’s limit on IR-return designations).

But that could just be internet echo chamber.

Anybody got a rule book entry?

It wouldn't be all that inconvenient to tie up one roster spot out of 90 until camp, and then PUP him for however long they wish.

Why would they tie up an important roster spot on the final cutdown, instead of going that route?

He's done this year.

Knee according to Reiss. A few ways for it to be legitimately season-ending, but most likely ACL.

This is seriously disappointing. Maybe Crownover will become our blocking TE. If Dippre was any good at blocking, why wasn't he out there last year.
