Brown whined his way out of town, Roseman was willing to accommodate because of bad chemistry and bad knees if he could fleece someone, and Vrabel drove the Pats' willingness to be fleeced.

My rebuttal to that is it appears there is this perception that the Pats will improve above and beyond other teams by virtue of their first round picks, when in reality, in today's NFL virtually all teams improve through the draft every year. This hypothetical 2028 likely late round pick has been romanticized as "The" missing piece. Just hold tight until then Drake. 2028 will be the year we make a run.

It’s an overpay and a risk. But so what? There’s no guarantee Drake Maye will be the NEP QB in three years. One way to keep him here is to give him as many weapons as possible to help him to succeed. He didn’t have that last year. They need a WR now and there is no one on the roster who is guaranteed to develop this year. Brown gives defenses someone to worry about; there was no one to worry about last year except Maye.

1st rounders are important, but AJ Brown is a known high level commodity and we have the cap space. I tend to think his knee holds out at least 2 years, at which point the Pats can save a significant amount of money with releasing him.

A 7th player, Sony Michel, was an important contributor to the SB his rookie season, but overall a semi-bust.

AB J can be plugged in day 1 and be up to speed producing.

Adding Diggs in 2025 transformed the NFLs worst pass offense in 2024 to a top 10 pass offense in 2025. Having ABJ hopefully allows the NE pass offense to remain good if not better.

How is he wrong? Seems the Pats were negotiating against themselves. Brown I guess wanted to be here and here alone and they still gave away 2 draft picks for a near 30 year old that IS slowing down a bit with a questionable at best knee.

Do I like the player? Yeah. Does he make the team better this year, yeah. After that it's anyones guess.

Again if his knees really are a problem he's not passing the physical and the deal is off. So I'm not all that worried about that.

I think the deal is an overpay - I would have much rather seen the 1st rounder be conditional - but sometimes you do have to overpay to improve your team and they have. Can't manage a team with Super Bowl aspirations scared or you'll be left behind.

And the clock is running on Maye's rookie deal. Can't be waiting around all scared to make deals or before you know it he'll be cashing in somewhere else when you didn't take advantage of having a great young QB here under full cost control.

Draining a knee is like brushing teeth.

These NFL players get maintenance like drainage and shots in joints to keep going.

Glad it’s official. Im a homer but i feel like this is going to pay off big and he is going to go great with maye while opening up the entire offense. the cherry on top to a great offseason after upgrading the ol, fb, and depth at te. This offense is going to explode imo.

After what we saw last season, I'm a big believer in Maye. He and AJ Brown are gonna be amazing.

Unfortunately that’s a very incomplete article and analysis by the author.

He makes the comment about how the cap charges are spread through the void years. But then he mentions how the Pats can get out of the contract after 2028 with little investment but fails to realize that the void year cap charges get accelerated to the current year (or the current year and the next year, depending on timing and approach) when a player is cut.

Absent a restructured contract, there will be a large cap hit at the end.

The Pats FINALLY have a legit #1 WR! Give Henderson another year to get used to running routes out of the backfield, HH as the safety blanket and Boutte et al. Maye should have everything he needs (if they can protect him).

It is interesting to note that AJB has had the knee problem since his days at Tennessee. I think it was even an issue when he was traded to Philly.
