PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
The Patriots basically gave up the equivalent of a 2nd rounder and 5th rounder in 2027 for Brown. That is fair value. I don't think either side fleeced the other or got fleeced.
Another condition would have been top 10 protected like the Bs did with the Leafs.

The next two seasons?

You're not giving up a first for two years of production.

Check my comment history. I was basically first on the we're getting AJ Brown going back a year now.

This ain't about the player. It's about the compensation.

They player wanted out. He only wanted NE, and it was going to happen.

Glad to have the player. They got taken to the cleaners on the compensation.
Well the compensation is based on the Patriots 2027 season isn't it.

There's a big difference between the 1st round pick being 26-32 and it being in the top 15 if the Pats have a bad season.

You can't properly judge the trade until you know exactly what the pick was, not all first rounders are created equal, the Patriots being a playoff team for the next 2 seasons (especially 2027 for the trade purpose) eliminates the possibility of the disastrous scenario where you're giving away a premium top half of the first round pick.

Because they think there is a chance that you could use that pick to get a really good player. Like AJ Brown, for example.
Or a Cole Strange, Isaiah Wynn, NKeal Harry, Malcom Brown, Dominique Easley.

All guys who would have certainly been better to help improve the QB you’re hoping is the franchise for the origination the next 12-15 years

Just because no one else is buying doesn’t mean Philly had to give him away cheap.

He’s still worth a 1st rounder, especially when you look at some of the guff the Pats have spent a first on.

For years the Pats have never had a genuine elite #1 WR. They do now, and he’s going to be catching passes from one of the best QBs in the league.

This is a happy day for me!
Yes, I get what you are saying. He definitely has the potential to really open up our offense… But he is 29 with a bad knee and has missed some games every year… Just seems like a big price to pay, but let’s hope it pays off and he has a great career here.

Elite by what standard? Not elite to the Eagles who know the most intricate details and just dumped him with a huge cap hit this year and next.
He’s an elite #1 wide receiver. Yes the Patriots are taking on money, yes they traded a first in 2028, this is a guaranteed 1000 yard WR and a big target for Drake Maye. He’s also a top deep ball threat. Drake Maye has a much better deep ball than Jaylen Hurts.

A first rounder can turn into anything, it can even turn into N’Keal Harry.

It's a first round. If they're giving up a 1 and a 5 they probably should should have got a 4 back.

I think giving all that we know, a 2 was the proper compensation.

I'm not gonna lose sleep over it though. They needed a WR and they got one.

Like I said the trade is pending a physical. If they find his knees are bad then no deal. I'm not worried about it. Very unlikely the Patriots will have an awful season in 2027 making them miss that pick anyway. Ideally I would have liked to see it be conditional but I guess that's not the case or at least nobody has reported it.
Yeah, because the Pats got to the SB and now the team management has lost perspective. I like the 2026 draft, but this is a 3 or 4 year plan, and there is no reason to panic and start giving away 1st round draft picks for injured players on the decline.

These are the same people who grade a draft before it's over.

He has two relatively healthy knees.
He does have a bum ankle, however.
I read they drain his knee weekly during the season. I have no inside knowledge, only what I read on the Internet.

Don’t like it for reasons I’ve stated before: questionable knee, 29, big contract, and most of all - being whiny and selfish on a defending SB champ.

Now to think it’s for a first during the time Drake will have been extended and cost a zillion dollars…so there goes that high-end cost controlled talent when we need it most of all.
But he doesn’t have a big contract at all for the next two years. That is part of why the compensation is a first. His projected cap hits for 26 is under 7M and for 27 is under 11M

Because while I like Boutte he is a JAG that is worth a 5th or a 4th at the very very best. He is in the last year of his deal will want probably around 10-15M per year in his new deal. Nobody is trading a top 100 pick for that
Pay the guy. We complain about not developing guys and we have one. Don't cheap out

Last year sped the timeline up.
The window is open now.

So? Does Waddle have two healthy knees or are you purposedly avoiding the issue?

No, but we don't know if Brown's knees are going to affect him any worse than the many injuries that Waddle gets that sidelines him.

Not avoiding anything. Both guys have injury concerns. Just different ones.

Well done Elliot. 1st/5th is a fair price for a top 15 receiver. He will help Drakes development and open up some targets for our other receivers. Best receiver we have had since Edelman. Lets go!

Oh, I'm talking about Jaylen Waddle.
Lengthy history of high right ankle sprains, probably stemming from a broken ankle in college.

This is a mistake, the sort of thing the Jets would do, snatching at shiny objects, overpaying for has-beens. We had a nice little rebuild going there, based on draft and develop; now we're like the fat lady shopping for eight-pound bags of pork rinds at Walmart. Enjoy...for now. I'll get back to you.
