Bedard: Team thinks Maye has made a huge leap forward this offseason.

Maye has proven himself 1000% it's not debatable. If it wasn't for Staffords 13 1 yard td passes he would have been the mvp
Every player has things they have to work on
But same system better oline better run game + aj brown. Only an injury can hold back drake. I see 8 superbowls including a perfect season on the horizon. All you Nancy negatives need to get realistic and accept the truth. And the truth is drake maye

Is that the Patriots answer to the Jetes winning the offseason again?

Ironically that's where Brady got Belichick's attention as well, but FCB was too busy talking **** about them to ever realize that. Then again we shouldn't expect much more than that from a Jets fan.

The thing that really pisses me off about Stafford getting that MVP is that in November, when the Tams were leading the NFC, all the talking heads were talking about how the winner had to lead his team to at least a 1st or 2nd seed in their Conference. Yet when the end of December rolled around, and the Patriots were going to get a top seed, and the Rams a Wild Card they all changed their tune and talked about his touchdowns. They gave that MVP to Stafford as a lifetime a hievment award. Maye was clearly the " MOST VALUABLE" player in football, and he was screwed out of that award.

You can say that again!

I keep saying over and over again. I just wanna see consistency out of Maye. He really saw a fantastic 2nd year jump. Went from 15 TD passes to 31 TD passes, and from 10 INTs to 8 INTs. I don’t need 45 TD passes and 4 INTs, just wanna see consistency, if he can produce around the same as last year, I’d be thrilled. It means he did it against tougher competition.

Still a very young QB, just keep doing what he’s been doing, getting better each game. Keep getting better at the playbook. He’s already a fantastic player in the league, and a good leader.

I go back to all the way during OTAs and training camp, and the media was worried because Maye wasn’t super sharp. Fun times.

Good post.
There's levels to this.
He made a big jump last year, the jump that put him in the 'Franchise QB' category. The next stuff can only come with more experience.

I think that the Offense has been upgraded more than just a bit.
I know..

Beating Seattle the first night of the season would go so far towards shutting up the "but the schedule!" crowd.

Sadly, I think it's so much easier for a strong defensive team (i.e. Seattle) to get off to a good start than it will be for us with lots of new parts on offense.

OTOH, they did just let Walker walk, so we have that going for us...
They did lose two pretty important pieces of that defense and in theory out offense SHOULD be better week 1.

Seattle has a target on their backs now that they are SB Champs. They will get every team’s best. Would love to see the Pats beat them game one, but as long as they give them a good game, I’ll be happy. I don’t expect a Pat’s win, but I’d be thrilled if they can pull it off.

... the defense is slightly better too. Alot is riding on health though too
Health is often the deciding factor.

Yes, the Defense being better depends a lot on health in the front seven: Williams, Barmore, Landry, Spillane and Elliss.

In addition, I have faith in exactly zero of our backups in the secondary. The starters need to be healthy.

He's gotta learn to get down decisively before getting hit when scrambling. All his dings and some of his fumbles have been when he half-asses his slide, or can't decide whether to slide, or chooses not to slide. He can hurt opponents with his legs, but that doesn't make him a RB. Don't be greedy over a couple of extra yards.

Four.

Teams we played in the wild card, divisional, AFCCG, and Super Bowl were all playoff teams.
So used to “three games to glory.” Of course, no glory…

he has to do something about the sacks. it’s the reason I consider Manning and Brees as better than Rodgers. people just see his passer rating and TD/INT ratio and cream their pants without realizing he took sacks at an astronomically higher rate than Manning and Brees

Yes. Additionally pundits love to minimize how we got to the superbowl..look at the path laid out for the Seahawks.. they played all division opponents and payed the 49ers missing basically half a roster.. I'm not even sure Seattle is the best team I thier division I believe personally rams are.

Yes, he should block for himself first, then complete the play. Do you want him to hike the ball to himself, or play guard or tackle? You choose.

This anecdote is very encouraging:
Hoyer recalled having McDaniels on his "Quick Snap" podcast last December and relayed an example McDaniels shared about Maye's steady growth. McDaniels told Hoyer and co-host David Andrews that the Cincinnati Bengals had success challenging Maye with different looks, fronts and blitzes early in a game the Patriots narrowly won Nov. 23, and then the New York Giants attempted to do something similar the following week in a "Monday Night Football" matchup.

Maye made the Giants pay in a 33-15 win, specifically on a 33-yard touchdown to receiver Kyle Williams, in which he changed the protection at the line of scrimmage based on a Bengals-type defensive look.

"For him to do that, in a matter of a few weeks -- understand what the issues were, get them fixed, and execute them [is impressive]," Hoyer said.
