Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
As of right now the Patriots will have 3 WR’s under contract to start next offseason. Boutte, Hollins, Douglas don’t have contracts… they could and should draft or bring some rookie WR’s in either way… or extend some vets.
Yes, 1-2 should be extended.

If 2 are expected to be extended, what is the value of having more than FIVE WR's signed for 2027?

If we have a deal in place for Brown, I find unlikely that we would draft a WR in the first four rounds.

BROWN, DOUBS, WILLIAMS, BOUTTE, HOLLINS, DOUGLAS, CHISM

ONLY seven!!

Even without Brown, it is not clear we will draft someone to replace one or two of what we have.

I think they’ll go younger, better, cheaper…

Bring some rookies in, let them compete and make the team first… then they can trade assets or outright cut vets like they did after camp last offseason with Kendrick Bourne.

I read the thread foolishly looking for NEWS on Brown. I know, Lucy with the football gets me again.
If we CLOSED this thread and no new Brown thread started unless something happened I would be happy.

My point is I visit this thread for AJ Brown discussion, as I'm interested in that only, not the other, totally unrelated, stuff being posted here. So no, I will not ignore it as I may miss something interesting but it was a waste of time reading the last few pages.

Then just hit the button to go directly to the latest posts.

Gotta wonder if Nick Cattles posts here.

His latest mock draft has him conducting it with the assumption that the Pats are trading for AJ Brown.
Whaaaaaaats haaaaaapenig...I'm your host Nick cattles.. locked on patriots podcast...

I'm just sick of hearing about AJ Brown.

Alright, me too. But here is a question designed to keep this thread going for at LEAST another 15 pages. .

I've seen a lot of Pats mocks that give us KC Conception WR Tex Tech 6' 4.4 40, and supposedly VERY smooth in his routes. I've also seen many that give us a Edge or an OT, but most are one of those 3 positions.

My question is let's assume we get KC at WR. How does that effect any efforts to get AJB as well. If we do both we can have a WR room including Brown, Doubs, Boutte, KC, Williams , Douglas, OR Hollins. If we don't we can take away the "or" from Douglas and Hollins and run with a too 4 of Doubs, Boutte, KC and Williams and see what that gets us. At any rate, does getting a WR in the first end our pursuit of AJB or not?

I'm thinking a 2027 2nd round pick plus a mid round pick for AJ Brown. This way we don't touch our early draft capital for this year.

The Eagles won't get a 1st. Right now it's all posturing until June 1st cuts when they likely need to make a move. Most teams will have their rosters set by then so the Patriots are still the most likely suitors.
If they got him I would cheer him on. If they stay the course and build a deep team I will cheer them on.
They know better than me where they are on the rebuild. Whatever they do is fine with me. They know better. If they pass on AJ then it is where I think they are on the rebuild

If you are looking for serious, on-topic, conversation, you are in the wrong forum. Head over to the draft forum: far from perfect, but much better on topic, nfl based discussion. This is a circus; although I must say I do enjoy this particular circus.

That's an interesting question. I'm not sure Concepcion will be our draft target because he has a pretty high drop rate.

He is known for getting open quickly though. I'm still in favor of OL in the 1st and then WR in the 2nd. But it depends on how the talent falls to us in the draft. OL/WR/EDGE are still our top 3 needs and they tend to be premium positions in the draft as well.

If for example we draft OL Rd 1, Edge Rd 2, and WR Rd 3, I feel an AJ Brown trade still remains very much in play for June 1st.

I’ve been here for 20 years but thanks for the advice

That scenario would remind me of 2007 when the Pats signed Welker, Stallworth in FA and then drafted Chad Jackson with a trade up in the second.

At that point it would seem that the WR was complete but then the trade for Moss happened. Then the greatest team ever happened.

No I'm not saying AJ Brown is anything like Moss or that we would have a similar season. Just pointing out that I dont think it would mean getting AJ Brown is impossible.

I think that mentality of absolutely having to pick a position is incredibly short sighted.

The very strong likelihood is that there will not be any tackle at 31 with a consensus first round, or possibly even second round grade. What do you do then, just draft some mediocre talent cos you just have to have a tackle, while leaving a potentially elite player at a different position on the board?

Personally, I don't like any of this years tackle class in the first round at all and would certainly not be choosing one at 31.

I like Lomu and Ineachor at 31. You don't pick a position prior to the draft unless you are picking really high and can get the guy you want. There were fans here screaming for a tackle in the 23' draft, and there were tackles available, ****ty ones. However Christian Gonzalez had dropped from a projected 6-8 pick to mid first round, and Belichick was absolutely right to go with the best player and leave the tackles in the board. They got an All Pro by going BPA. You are trying to build the best team in football, you don't do that by passing on the best players to plug holes.
