Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Had a buddy texted me he read somewhere they offered a 2 and a 5. I haven't read that, but it sounds right.
I think that's Buffalo. They traded a second and got back a fifth.

2 parts to this:

- "The Eagles care more about the cash than the cap": this is what I have been saying for weeks. Brown is due an option bonus in about a week for around $30M. They can trade that option bonus to a new team if he is moved before then. So, they will become desperate to move him in a few days. They don't want to become responsible for that money even if it makes their 2026 cap hit larger, because long-term it is a better cash savings.
- "Who do they replace him with?": I wonder if they are trying to get a WR back in trade, something like Brown in exchange for Boutte and a pick. I am guessing NE might be open to that, because Brown will take up many of Boutte's snaps anyway, but if they send Boutte then they aren't going to want to give up much draft capital in addition.
No Boutte is on the up and will be a great receiver. Keep him

Just saw a tweet saying we gave up a 1st, a 3rd and Hooper. That can't be real.

How do you trade Hooper when he is an unrestricted free agent? Inquiring minds want to know. Is this like the new thing? We can just trade players not even on our team? Can we start trading players from other teams? That would really help us.

If these trolls are going to make up fake trades, they might want to check to see if the players involved in the trade are free agents or not. Hooper is an UFA and likely will not be a Patriot ever again.

I think that's why the trolls find it funny--to see who bites knowing it's ridiculous.

Well, let's hope the Pats drive up the price for Pierce so Buffalo, who are in desperate need for a good WR, will overpay for him.

Edit: I didn't realize that Buffalo is in a deep hole cap-wise. It will be a little tough to add a $25M (give or take) WR to their roster.
Plus, it sounds like they're getting DJ More. I'd expect that to take them out of the market for Pierce.

Thank you. I have been trying to preach this for months.
yeah, taking a look at his contract the Eagles would take a big hit in the next two years so he's likely untradeable even this time next year, right?

yup, someone else just posted the trade is happening as well. Their cap situation isn't friendly at this time. It's why we may be able to poach one of their UFA players, McGovern or even Andrews. This has been discussed elsewhere so we'll see if the Pats are interested.

Fake. Austin hooper is a free agent . We can't trade him .

Next year is a different. Dead Cap Pre June 1 is $27,161,609.

Post June 1:
2027 Dead Cap: $15,739,807
2028 Dead Cap: $15,421,802
2027 Savings: $6,966,000

A dude who has only had a single 1k season (and just barely) and topped out at 47 receptions is going to get paid a ton.

Get Brown, Pierce is icing if you can get him to stretch the field, but with our line, it's a ****ing disaster if the big replacement to Diggs is only a guy who can stretch the field and will require Maye sitting in the pocket. Especially with us playing better defenses this year
AJ Hasn't done much since 2023, I'm not sure what guys are drooling over for 30M.

Has less to do with Brown's contract and more to do with Philly not having a lot of avenues to generate cap space right now to make up for the dead cap. But I do think that Roseman may be OK with taking short term pain in exchange for long term savings, especially if he thinks Sirianni is a lame duck anyway. He can fire him after this year and then have a very free and flexible cap situation for the next several years for the next coach.
