Patriots Player Departure Stefon Diggs Cut.

Any signing bonus in a potential Gonzo deal would come out of that I believe although I'm far from an expert on contract stuff.

If they only spent $60M in cash this year I feel like they'd be falling behind. They have $125M or more in cap space in 2027 and $250M in 2028. Only spending $60M in cash this year will not land contracts that use up very much of the cap in those future years. They'll need to spend heavily in future years. So, I have to imagine they'll spend more than $60M in cash.

Thomas Brown is familiar with DJ Moore, so hopefully is able to give some insight about potential fit.
Moore reminds me of Steve Smith. Scrappy guy who doesn't really get respect around the league despite being pretty good.

DJ Moore Younger and > Grandpa Diggs.

Called this on December 21.
Was universally lampooned.

I don't think it is going to Brown and Pierce now. I think it could be DJ Moore and one of them.

One thing about Pierce...his catch percentage is not good at 53%. Otherwise I hope he signs with the Pats.
He averages 22 yards per catch. The catch percentage 20+ yards downfield will always be lower than the catch percentage 5 yards downfield.
Given the routes and targets 53% is very, very good.
Given Mayes downfield accuracy that should increase to aground 70.

It didn't age well for one of those goons who is still in denial.

I hope you're right. Boutte for example had a 72% catch rate on 17 yards per....nearly 20% higher.

Diggs convinced me that he wasn't a mistake last year. His leadership in that room was big. He's going to be missed.

Pierce is a 3rd/4th WR who catches 54% of the passes thrown to him. He's Donald Hayes 2.0.

Brown is a Diva who has shown he can't handle not being "THE" guy.
I am with you on Pierce, but in his defense the Colts used him specifically as a downfield guy and those are low percentage throws. I do think he is able to do more, but the reason I am with you is because it is merely projection about him being able to do more.

He is 6-3 and 210, he is very athletic, so it is reasonable to think he can do more in the route department.

I would prefer a trade for DJ Moore

I would prefer Moore to Pierce or Brown
But with Diggs gone we could afford Pierce now: also they might feel Pierce is better than Boutte going forward. We have to Boutte for one more season.

That's not what I said. I said he is not young.
I think he still younger and not close to the WR Cliff like Diggs.

Because of Maye. Do you think Daniel Jones and Old Man Rivers are as accurate on deep throws as Maye?

I didn't think they'd go that hard at WR tbh but I guess maybe I was wrong.

BTW, releasing Diggs doesn't mean they couldn't sign him back later if he doesn't get an offer he wants.

There's little chance this year.

They're not going to eat 9+ million and then pay him again.

If they wanted him at all this year, they would have guaranteed some money and lowered his cap number.
