Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Pats should put digg in the slot. Boutte can play the 2 spot. And have it be this year that the never ending search for a true X WR ends.

Alec pierce
Chris brazell
Ja'cobi Lane
Ted Hurst
Bryce Lance

Jeff Caldwell

Agreed. Also Vrabel's harping on k. Williams year 2 jump.. if this happens this is HUGE for the wr group all together.

It seems pretty clear that NOTHING finite is going to happen with the AJ Brown trade market until AFTER June, 1. So does this mean I will be saddled with ANOTHER 3 full month of rampant speculation and posts that seem to say the same 4 or 5 things OVER and OVER again, tilike a bad dream that just won't go away.

Face it AJ would be a wonder LUXURY to have, but he would come a HIGH cost in both cap space and draft capital when we have clear serious needs in other areas. Think of the Pats like the Commanders, who came out of no where to make a HUG year to year leap forward. The only difference was a few plays in the AFCCG. Now think about the Commanders THIS season. Look at their precipitous fall from grace. They faced the same issues the Pats will face in 2026. Tougher schedule, more injuries to key players than in '24. the normal coaching and roster changes that happen year to year.

14-3 is NOT a likely outcome for the 2026 season even though the team is likely to be better "on paper". Lots of 2nd year players making a 2nd year leap. Plus new FA's who we HOPE will be marginal upgrades over their past replacements. But team building is kind of a mystical process and when you are looking at 25-30% of the roster being changed and how EVERY year is different. Hopefully being in the same system that proved successful is a positive thing, but the same team building process will have to work itself out over August, September and into October before a team develops its own UNIQUE identity. And just as hopefully we will like what this identity is as much as we liked that 2025 team.

AJ Brown was the guy who was reading a book during an Eagles game this year. Yes it was a book about self improvement, but very odd thing to do during a game. Perhaps indicates he wanted to separate himself from his team mates BUT

He has had 4 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons in a row. That is consistency.....
I am pretty sure Vrabel knows this guy very well and he will know what is a fair price for his services.
I think a 2nd rounder in 26 (at the end of the 2nd round) will be something the eagles will ultimately accept.
AJ knows the eagles are willing to move on from him and I suspect its a risk for Eagles to keep him in terms of team cohesion.

Anything more than this years 2nd rounder I would not do.

Waiting for it to be official. I can't wait. We are getting brown and keeping diggs. Get some traffic cones to protect maye and let's go baby.

Since no trade will be made until June 1st, I would note that the high draft capital folks are discussing will turn out to be a 2027 pick or picks.

All teams interested in Brown will know who they signed in free agency and who they drafted.

In a scenario where Brown and Diggs are rostered together, I do wonder who gets dropped. They’d seemingly have too many guys at WR:

Brown
Diggs
Boutte
Hollins
Williams
Chism
Douglas

I would trade Pop, but I'm also a big fan of Chism, and I believe he can turn into another Edelman when he gets the opportunity.

Alec Pierce is most likely getting tagged, unless Daniel Jones plays real hardball with his contract, so we can take him off the list.

Even if Pierce doesn't get tagged, he will command an AJ Brown type contract, not that he is worth it by any means, but he would be the clear best WR on FA market.

Well if chowderandchampions says it…

Brown looks llike he's wading in cement to me, winning with vet guile and route-running. Not an explosive game breaker. I'd say no.

Pierce isn't worth HUGE $ IMHO.

This is not Madden or fantasy football. If I have posted it once, I have posted it 50 times. I will post it another 50 until people get it. The Eagles will not accept a 2026 second rounder. It would have to be a 2027 2nd rounder. A 2026 would trigger a $43 million dead cap hit that cannot be split to 2027, which means they would be at $100 million, or 1/3 of the cap, in dead money for 2026. That is not happening. If AJ is traded this year, its after June 1 for a 2027 pick so that the dead money can be split.

We will find out in 2 days if he get tagged. If that have not done it by now, They just may not.

That's how I've observed his play as well. He's a slow lumbering route runner. I'm not a fan of his style of play.

We need to upgrade at WR, but I’m not giving up much for Brown. He’s got maybe a few years left in his prime and I’ve read he has a degenerative knee issue. I’d rather get Brian Thomas Jr who had 1200 yds and 10 TDs as a rookie. See with the Jags if he’s available after his disappointing year 2. This also looks like a good draft for WRs. I wouldn’t mind a double dip.

If it's true what's being reported that supposed Pittsburgh and Jax are in talks about BTJ.. then we need to be involved as well.. I'm sure BTJ and his agent would rather him going to a team with and elite QB than the mess at QB in Pittsburgh right now.

The problem for the Eagles is the market will dry up in June and they are in a bind that they cannot spend high draft capital on his replacement if they can't move him since they have other needs.

Teams aren't going to wait around til June 1st to fill their #1 WR needs. If Brown isn't available, they are going to look to trade for Brian Thomas or someone else, pick someone up in free agency, or draft a receiver high. They aren't going to bet that they can win a bidding war for Brown in June where if they lose, they have no options left.

Also, if the Eagles are going to trade Brown, they need to find his replacement in the draft. I don't think they can draft a WR in the first round and keep Brown. If they do draft a WR in the first with Brown, Brown's trade value drops to a 2027 third day pick since teams know the Eagles have to trade Brown because of potential locker room issues.

And the Commanders approached last season differently than the Pats claim they are going to do. The Commanders felt they were a legitimate Super Bowl contender that were a few pieces away and decided to add older players who at best could help them for one or two years. They gambled on a lot of players who were way past their prime. Plus, Daniels lived up to everyone's fears of being way too small of frame to stay healthy in the NFL. The Pats are not looking to add a lot of older players and looking at it as a year two of a rebuild. You can add an older player like Brown who is still in his prime years, but they are not going to add a lot of 30 something players like the Commanders did.
