Last year we had $130M of cap room. This year we have $40M.

Last year, we signed 5 players at $10M or more AAV. How many will we sign this year, not counting a Gonzalez extension?
============
BTW, an extension for Gonzalez could be one of the $10+, although Miguel has posted that it might be done for a bit less.

Also, I would note that $10M won't buy a top free agent at very many positions. That might take the $18M or more we paid for 2 of the signees last year.
=====
I also note that I am not worried about spending too much early. When we need money later (we always do), restructures of Williams and Davis would give us $21M, enough for the draft and costs after that.

RLKAG.

Your poll is invalid due to incomplete selection options.
Sure, it's complete. Anyone who wants to vote RLKAG or something else can vote by not voting, as many, many do in political elections.

I haven't added that option since I joined over 20 years ago. Unless Ian makes it a requirement, I'm not starting now.

I voted one but, yes, RLKAG needs to be an option.

I get it’s a bit that goes back for years, but I’ve never taken part in it. Just nukes the poll results.

It gives a way to participate in the poll even if you don’t agree with any of the other options. It’s a way to register disagreement with all the alternatives offered, which is not the same as not responding. So, another word for “none of the above”, with added connotations.

@Joey007 that’s why I didn’t vote in your poll btw. You should at least offer “none of the above”. There’s a difference between not having an opinion (not voting) and having an opinion that’s not reflected by any available option (none of the above, or RLKAG). If you don’t offer one of those you’ve nuked your own poll results.

The journey is more important than the results.

Placebos are used in clinical trials as a control group to measure the actual effectiveness of new drugs. Ring3 has invalidated every poll he has ever created. Without the control group (N/A, None of the Above, other, RLKAG, etc.) you have no idea how many people actually participated but found no suitable option.

As is usually the case, the contemplation and conversation sparked by the poll is more useful than the poll itself.
The HC says he is going to make the team younger, cheaper, and better. Most of the big ticket buys are about better, but not younger or cheaper. So any big purchases like that will detract from two of his three goals. That makes me more skeptical for this year than last. I'd vote 0 or 1.

Vrabel wants to get younger and cheaper, and is looking at edges in the draft. Reading the tea leaves…

I see Diggs as the most sure fire cut. I will bang the Wan’Dale Robinson drum with all my might until he resigns with NYG.

OL has to be THE free agent priority if we’re looking edge early in the draft.

I don’t think the team plans on starting Landry and a rookie at edge, so I presume resigning Chaisson is a priority.

That makes 3, if re-signings count. Here, Robinson (or some other starting caliber WR) replaces Diggs on the cap sheet, and the OL signing takes Bradbury’s place on the roster.

I also see the team exploring a TE upgrade, but not spending big.

That comment is being misconstrued.
He said that like every team every year they want to get players that are better, players that are younger and players that are cheaper.
He did not say that is a game plan, just that those are always goals.

I never said Christian Gonzalez' s extension could be done for a bit less. If you are going to claim I did something at least link to it.

It is tiresome to have people speak on my behalf.

Posted in December this projection.

Didn’t know clicking a button was that much of an undertaking lmao

???
I apologize if I misled folks.
===========
$4.8M is the current 2026 cap for Gonzalez
$13.3M is the cap you suggest as part of an extension
========
MY CONCLUSION
with an extension, under your numbers, Gonzo's 2026 cap would go up by a bit less than $10M.
==========
FOR ME
as has been the case for many months, I expect 2026 to be the same except for new signing bonus and 2027 to include a $17.5 salary (the same as the 5th year option). That way, there is no real rush. We can simply implement the option by May 1 while still negotiating.
============
IN THE FUTURE
I would be happy to directly quote your work. Dor some reason, I didn't think that you wanted that to happen. I might even join bluesky just to have your current thoughts.

It's a scientific formula, scientifically formulated by the brightest of bright minds at patsfans.

RLKAG = (None of the above OR I have no idea OR I don't care) + Fuk the Ratbirds + RLKAGM2

Threade title includes AAV which I believe stands for Average Annual Value. You are using my $10M cap number increase for 2026 in an apples to oranges comparison.

I much prefer to have my work directly quoted. Thanks so much. See you on BlueSky.

I think that we will sign Chaisson and an OL to contracts of $10 AAV or more.
========
Any more would be replacing a top player who is cut: Onwenu, Diggs or even Barmore.
