I don't know if diggs is the best use of allowing our players to develop. We saw Boutte flatline through mid of season, pop regressing and Williams not having an option, inability to play Chism.
We have 4 young guys ( pop,Boutte, Chism and Williams ) of which 2 could be the future . If that's the case no point allowing diggs to eat into snaps and their playtime. I don't see a future for diggs in 2026.
We got into the super bowl this year . Will diggs help us win it in 2026 or beyond?
Probably not. We need to build the team in trenches and across swathe of rookies, low tier high potential FA and all pro level free agents in 4-5 positions . 2025/26 is more like 2021 where we spent a lot and got real good contributions and we exceeded expectations due to coaching this year and some injury and scheduling luck. No point over extending on that and becoming like commanders. We have Maye rookie contract but 2026 is not the year to win the ring it's maye's 4th year where we have a realistic chance and for that we need a core group of 25 odd players who have played at least 15 games leading to 2027 season.
This season we might revert to 2022 form if we continue to believe 2025 was because of all these individuals we added
. Regression should be expected from older players and progression from younger players. So build the base for 2027 and fill gaps in 2027 through free agency when the vets leave or contracts are done ( Moses , hollins , landry, davis , barmore , Henry etc. ) .
We need to ascertain whether Boutte is wr 2 or wr3.
Can Maye elevate no name received if line is above average. That would be my objectives for this year.
Get likely as TE2 with heavy performance based incentives. Draft a TE or X receiver across 3rd and 4th rounds and let them develop. Use first round to get RT of future is Bryant is not the one.
Free agency - resign chaisson , Hawkins , Tonga and munford and sign likely and Henderson / linderbaum whoever is available.
Diggs can leave and check if landry contract dead cap can be reduced this year. Diggs is a 15-17 million a year player not 27 million.
