There is no financial incentive for an injured player with remaining fully guaranteed salary on his deal to retire. If they have an off-season workout bonus like Harold Landry does, they will get paid to rehab ($225K in Harold Landry's case).

It all depends on the contract. Hopefully we didn't overpay.

But it's not a bad idea to keep continuity on the defense when we clearly had a top 5 defense in the playoffs.

Thank you . This helps clarify a lot. So essentially there is no need to do any solid here.

Labdry is already making his millions. Vrabel only solid he can do is not going after his guarantees if he retires.

From a pats standpoint, landry contract was useless . 26.5 million for 2 games worth of stellar play .

If I am Kraft I will be questioning this contract and call it a missed one.

So I really think this contract will have some indirect impact on diggs contract .

Patriots don't want to outright cut Landry because that comes with a big dead cap hit.

Hopefully they settle on some kind of injury related release and save some cap for the upcoming season. Perhaps they can defer some of that money into future years?

I don't see any reason why Landry wouldn't want all the money coming to him. So it seems he'll be on the team the entire year which will be his last -- with a big contract, anyway.

Exactly!! Landry was the team leader in sacks prior to his injury the saints game.. of course he played injury the rest of the season and that's why his play dipped.. prior to his injury he showed great burst off the edge and set the edge in the run game..

On Davis remember when we signed Gilmore?? His first season he had struggles too.. and he made the play in the AFCCG to seal the win.. 2017..

By 2019 he was DPLOY.. I believe Davis is excellent in man coverage zone is where he struggles..

I think the TE class is large but not a lot of top guys. LBs too, after the top guys, there is a fall off. We might get a great guard or tackle at the end of R1, or maybe a CB. It all hinges on FA.

We have to remember.. coming off 4-13.. we had to sign guys.. it was a given that one of the contracts we gave out were going to be an overpay..

The point was good guards in the middle rounds. Not sure Strange fits either category.
They had a string of bad second round DB’s, an earlier run of bad TE’s. Now a run of poor choices on guards.

If any of Caedan Wallace, Layden Robinson, Sidi Sow, Atonio Mafi, Jake Andrews, Cole Strange, Andrew Stueber - all drafted in just the past four years - had worked out….

I wonder how Vrabs and Wolf view our need at edge.
If K re-signs, do they think a healthy Landry, along with development of Ponder and potential Swinson is good enough?
I hope not. Whether via the draft or FA, we need more juice.
I think most of us expect an edge in the first 2 rds of the draft assuming we don't sign a stud in FA or make a trade.
But.....perhaps we won't see an edge early in the draft as we have lots of needs and value has to be there. We might end up taken a player later in the draft who is a pass rush specialist, that will need development to contribute on 1st and 2nd down.

From what I'm seeing and hearing on patiots content with nick cattles.. that knee with Landry seems problematic.. we needed edge help even with Landry and Chaisson both playing well together earlier in the season.. who do you see us taking should we stick at #31? Edge? OL? TE?
