Breer: Vrabel says the Pats will approach the offseason getting younger, cheaper, & better options

He was your best WR coming off an ACL last year.
A year removed from that, I think I'd like to see what he's got for one more year. No one's saying to keep him beyond that, right now.
Diggs was worth $21M a year when signed. He is worth $21M a year for 2026. And Vrabel is likely to keep him for his 3rd year at $21M.

.

A guy like Max Crosby is turning 29. But I would wager he has another high end 4-5 years in him if he stays healthy. He’d be worth it.
worth what?

Crosby is under contract for $30M guaranteed.

Kinda hoping it’s not Henry. Isn’t he on a decent contract to begin with? I like getting younger behind him, though.

Otherwise, I’m curious who else may fit that billing. Rhamondre because of his bloated deal? Diggs seems obvious. Landry would if not for the contract commitment.

Admittedly other guys that could fit that description aren’t really the ones I want to let go. Hunter Henry, Moses, Mike O, Spillane..
I don't think it will be Henry.. a team captain, leader and reliable target for Drake. Henry was great this season. If anyone it's Hooper.. sign TE and Drafting another is what they likey do IMO.. Mike Owenu is still a good player and show be here next season he's under contract.. Basically of our veterans serve great purposes at least going into next season..

I personally think Landry probably retires.. that knee zolak mentioned is worse than initially thought..

At some point in the year I remember seeing a stat saying that despite how good Maye was down the field, we still faced defenses playing loaded boxes at one of the highest rates in the league. That's where the WR problem shows up, IMO. I think it would help our offense a lot if we had receiving threats they respected enough to back up for. It would make reads easier for Maybe. It would make run blocking easier. And it would make pass blocking easier to because loaded boxes make it easier to disguise.

Our WRs are productive, but they don't move defenses. That's why I have Alec Pierce circled as such a great target for us. He's a premier deep threat who I think would actually force defenses to back off more and that would have a positive effect on all other areas of the offense.
We also won games at one of the highest rates in the league.

My question is, with our WRs being productive why do we want to move defenses and make those WRs less productive?

How many more Wins will that produce? How many Losses will it avert?

Specifically, which losses resulted from this?
Regular season?
Playoffs?

Wow. I didn’t realize Sam keeping his word didn’t matter because you said so.
It was stupid. I said it the day it happened. And I would have said the same to you if you made the same ridiculous decision.

My point is, I’m not enforcing it. One of you - or both - can put the other on ignore/block, etc. But as far as I’m concerned, it’s irrelevant here in terms of his ability to remain here. Aside from whatever differences you guys might have.

Private harassment is still harassment
Asking someone to honor their commitment is not harassment. He chose the bet he said multiple times he would honor his bet.

I agreed to the bet because he diminishes my enjoyment of the site.

And it’s selfish for you to diminish my, and others’, enjoyment of the site with your beating another dead horse.

Why should anyone care about you more than you care about us?

Yep, this is also where I am at. Pierce is a great solution to their current problem. They need to actually force defenses to play back a bit, which lightens boxes and makes it easier to run the ball. They also just need to improve the OL to further improve running the ball in general. And in turn, if they are running the ball well, then the pass rush becomes less intense which makes Maye's life easier.
What’s nice is that the Pats don’t have to do a full sales job this year like they did in the past. The product sells itself. “Alec, do you want to play for the AFC champions with Drake Maye as your QB and Mike Vrabel as your head coach? Or do you want to continue to catch passes from Daniel Jones?”

Of course what I’m reading is the Colts are trying to resign Jones before FA so they can use the franchise tag on Pierce, but it’s fun to dream….

Speaking of which, I’d be thrilled as a Seahawks fan too, not only did they just win the SB but they’re in just as strong of a cap position as we are. They’ll have the same pull. They could stay good for quite a while.

It'll be interesting to see if maybe they sign some younger guys at positions they signed older players at last year and cleared the spot via trade.

I mentioned the math on Moses (35 this year) earlier... If we trade him (pre-June 1st), his new team gets him for $6.5M this year ($4.5M guaranteed) plus $2.5M in incentives. No guaranteed money next year.

Spillane (31 this year)... if we trade him (pre-June 1st) his new team gets him for $8.3M this year (fully guaranteed) plus another $1.2M in incentives. We free up $6.32M this year after taking into account a $6M dead money charge (none next year).

Carlton Davis (30 this year)... if we traded him (pre June 1st), his new team gets him for $13M this year (fully guaranteed) plus another $3.5M in incentives. We free up $11M of cap space this year after taking into account an $11M dead money charge (none next year).

I think all of those contracts are pretty reasonable for the acquiring team. Maybe on Davis we eat a few million by converting to signing bonuses and retaining the cap hit. For us, cutting any of those players wouldn't be worth it because the guaranteed salary stays on our cap as dead money, but trading them sends it to the new team and frees it up.

What if they wanted to sign a guy like Quay Walker as a younger replacement for Spillane? The money saved by trading him would fit Walker's year 1 cap hit. If they wanted to splurge with a younger RT like Braden Smith, the money freed by trading Moses would cover the year 1 cap hit. Jaylen Watson is a 27 year old press man CB that maybe could be a younger replacement for Davis if they wanted to turn that position over.

Obviously we have a good chunk of cap space so it's not like we NEED to move guys to free up money, but depending on how aggressive they want to be in churning out older players for younger player trades like this could be an option.

Yea I was just watching his highlights, hopefully Colts don't franchise tag him, his tag is at $28 Million.
He was a draft binky of mine, but I do not think he is a volume X and I think he will be paid like he is.

I’m trying to improve things, not my fault he can’t keep his word.

I dint remember asking you to care about me.

So maybe it’s time to give it up.

YOU’VE MADE YOUR POINT!

I know that’s something you have difficulty recognizing so I tried to help you out with some appropriate emphasis.

Take your win and move on!
It’s not a win if the result doesn’t happen. I didn’t make the bet in order to say I win it I made it because I legitimately do not want the guy to post here.
He was lying. If I had lost I would have complied so ultimately you are asking me to accept that I risked my bet and he risked nothing.

Me, i would just tell you to suck on it
You appear to have as much character as Sam.
Interesting that you defend the guy who refuses to keep his word.
