Patriots Injury News Campbell Says He's Been Playing with a Torn Ligament in His Knee

Let me preface this by saying that I’m often wrong, but I don’t think they’re going after Lindebaum. I think they’ll go after a guard. And maybe cut/trade Bradbury in camp as long as it’s clear Wilson is ready.
I would go after a guard too. The center market is strong, but they already have (hopefully) two solid centers. I’d like to get Edwards from Buffalo.

Yep saw him say that. So now the issue is Wilson to center and find a LG? That would be easier to do in the draft as well. I now agree with Vrabel give the kid an offseason to work on getting better. He isn't even fully grown yet.
Would you say at OL next season of :

Campbell LT
Brown LG
Wilson C
Ownenu RG
New RT

Is the likely scenario?

Brown is a good backup imo. They could use an upgrade at that spot if they move Wilson to C. If they don't, maybe an off season of Wilson working as a guard will pay off. I still think they could upgrade from Bradbury at C regardless.

Agreed... I think Bradbury was a nice stop gap veteran C.. but could do better there.. I know brown is a back up but he can play multiple spots... I just don't see any realistic attainable FA.. I'm sure there will be some cap cut veterans available in a few weeks... the off season is officially here..

Last year…. I don’t ever want to hear Vederian Lowe’s name ever again. He is the worst OT in the game. Mayo was an idiot for not upgrading that position.
This year…. After an up and down game by our injured rookie Tackle. Vrabel was an idiot for not pulling Campbell for Vederian Lowe. Lowe actually looked good in the games he played this year.

Vrabel knows what he is doing. He watches these guys in practice and team meetings. Lowe was not on the field for a reason. I think you all know that reason.

Not sure I buy that he was still significantly injured….an orthopedic doctor (Dr.Chau) on Felger’s show said he should have been 95% healed….and if by chance he reinjured it in one of other playoff games they should have pulled him and put in Lowe. Worst play by an LT in SB/playoff history ….couldnt have been much worse with Lowe…

As much as I wanna say "ARE YOU SERIOUS WHY NOT TRY LOWE", I am following my philosophy that I follow with other players that fans demand seeing for whatever reason:

If they were better, they'd be on the field. Same goes for Chism or whatever binkie we may have.

We need a road grader. The run game needs major improvement. You need to be able to convert 3 and 1 at the goal line. Please add a power run back too.

Only thing I can think if was Lowe wasn't 100% either. I dunno

Lowe...you guys are SERIOUS?
LMFAO..The same guy that should have been changed out for a rat in another teams locker room?
Dumped for a 9th grade JV Player?

That Guy?

At most, they should have let him play a series and when it was clear he was not up to snuff, they should have sat him for Lowe.
Yeah, i can see that, i thought about that today. See how WC played and if it was poor put in Lowe. Or Vica versa

I love Vrabel.

But I'm starting to wonder if stuff like this is highlighting one of the potential pitfalls with having a former player as a coach who clearly loves his players.

I can only speculate but if, in any possible way, his feelings about a rookie player and either not wanting to potentially hurt the rookie's longterm confidence or take playing in the Super Bowl away from that player influenced Vrabel even slightly then I'd say that's a downside.

Belichick would have heartlessly benched Campbell if he thought Lowe would do better. Does Vrabel have that in him?

Again - I'm doing a ton of speculating here and maybe they genuinely thought Campbell was a better option than a healthy Lowe. If so, fair play.

But if not - that was a serious mistake on Vrabel's part. Those 14 pressures Campbell allowed ABSOLUTELY played a part in that game. One good drive in the 2nd and the entire way the game goes changes. Even with Maye's issues with accuracy and decision-making.

I personally believe that they had Wilson play guard all year to give him reps in the league without the responsibilities of center. Now in year 2 he has those reps under his belt, knows how to be a starter and prepare as a starter, and just has to focus on (re)-learning the extra responsibilities of being a center and spending some time in the gym getting a little stronger and working on his conditioning. If Wilson beats out Bradbury (and I would hope he can), they will cut Bradbury and let him catch on somewhere else.

Same for Campbell but he just has to focus on his strength and ability to handle power rushers. Pre-injury, he was able to handle guys who had speed and guys who had power but not guys who had a little (or a lot) of both. But that is not that crazy for a guy who is so young. He can absolutely improve his game in that regard with a couple of years of NFL conditioning. It's not like the DEs he was getting beat badly by were 22 year old rookies, they had had that time to develop their games.

So yeah, I think otherwise you go into the season that way, leave the right side the same but scout some potential tackle depth, and probably draft a left guard and sign a left guard and see how the chips fall. Worst case, Ben Brown starts, but hopefully you find a higher tier player.
Falls right into my plan to sign David Edwards at LG and letting Bradburry and Wilson fight it out at Center.

I've yet to see the Pats have a C near the caliber of Dave Wohlabaugh which was almost 30 years ago. Woody was a underwhelming replacement who was bumped to G on passing downs, then lost his job to Koppen who was serviceable/decent. Stork had a mean streak, but injuries derailed a potentially promising career. David Andrews took the job by default and he was similar to Koppen.

I'd really like for them to get a standout at the C position they can rely upon for the next 5+ years. It wouldn't shock me to see a couple of G's and Linderbaum signed.

Playing him in the playoffs when he’s not 100%, ok I get that. But once he showed he was ineffective, they should have pivoted. Him being a rookie should have made it an easier decision.

Period, at least TRY something else. You know you're losing with what you are currently doing. I cannot stand losing while making no adjustments. If we try different things and lose okay fine... But making no adjustments when you see something is clearly not working is infuriating.

Let's put in Lowe like defectives decided! LMFAO, same that said he should be tossed in the pool of Piranha last year.
He played a few games against BUMS.... He was awesome!

Ridiculous. Bah

Are you talking about Campbell or Maye?

Edit: Sorry I just noticed that you referred to him as a rookie, so Campbell...got it
