Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is an amoeba defense??
It’s a defense, used on 3rd down where players line up seemingly indiscriminately along the line of scrimmage and some rush and others cover. You can’t know who is rushing and who is covering or where the rush is coming from. It usually is linebacker heavy with hybrid type OLB/DE types and good blitzing LBs and Safeties.

It’s a common football term for: Flexible, ever changing, bend but don’t break. The type of defense that changes often, one cannot define - - opposed to the Texans “we do what we do” type defense.
It’s definitely not bend but don’t break, it’s an aggressive pass rush scheme used in passing situations not a base defense.

Who knows? (Hook, line, and sinker! I’ll tie up Andy for the next 8 hours. Enjoy the game!)
I know and knowledgeable football people know. Pretty sure the poster who brought it up knows
Clearly you don’t know.
Do you think they created a name and it isn’t defined?

Don’t worry, I gave no need to discuss something with someone who doesn’t know what it is. You couldn’t afford my tutor fees.

None of the past history means a thing, on or off the field.

I'm just thrilled to be here.
Wait, we have a game today?

It's February. Are you certain about this?

The only way we have a game today is if we're playing in the...

Oh, God.

Well, the good news is that Patriots fans have had a little bit of practice at this. But it's been seven years?!

It feels like an eternity.

Look, the last time we were in one of these things without Coach Belichick was forty years ago. I realize we were gypped out of one nine years before that, but still.

Do you know how many of these we've been to without Coach Scar?

NONE!! ZERO!! ZIP!!*

*Scar was a consultant to the team in '14 & '15

All right, all right, all right, everybody just calm down.

I'm sure we all will behave ourselves in the GDT, make Ian proud and do nothing to embarrass ourselves.

[cue raucous laughter)

OK, maybe not.

I just hope each and every one of you watches the game surrounded by your loved ones...Yes, even if they're Miss July & Miss May. And her sister.

Finally, I know it's a 5-6 hour drive from Santa Clara to Pasadena, but it's the closest we've come to the Super Bowl we belonged in.

Kind of a bummer no local pregame on the radio right now.

WEEI FM has the national feed and WBZ FM is doing the Celts.

Go Pats.

Super Bowl Sunday is the longest day of the year. Even here on the West Coast where it is only 8:45AM.

It is a even longer day when your team is playing!

Bedard:

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Patriots offensive line coach Doug Marrone, at 61, has experienced more football and more teams than most.

He played at Syracuse, and then in the NFL. He's been an NFL head coach twice, and a college head coach. This is his 18th NFL season. He's seen it all, from every angle, for a long time. So when he is asked and talks about the impact Mike Vrabel has had on this Patriots team in just one season, and Marrone starts to tear up, you take note. Actually, a lot more than that. It sort of stops you in your tracks.

"I get tears in my eyes thinking about it," Marrone said. "Yeah, I really do. It's amazing, because it's so amazing. I've been in this business a long time. It's been ... it's unbelievable. It really is unbelievable.
...

It was something that I thought maybe couldn't be done anymore, with the personalities and everything that's in here, and this is probably the closest team that I've ever been a part of. I would say that's Coach Vrabel. And as soon as I said that, his first answer will be, 'It's the players and coaches.' It does come across as genuine.

I hope the players are not just thrilled to be here.
It’s going to come down to special teams.
Blocked fg
Hitting punter
Punt or kickoff return for TD
Shanked punt
Muffed punt/kickoff

There is going to be a gamechanging play on ST's. Question is for which team.

Joe Murray on NESN right now. The other two hosts are meh...

Crazy weather here, warm enough to watch it out on the back deck. Also…starting to get the nerves going

Why would you put Gonzo on a guy who can be shut down by Davis? Kupp is a shell of his former self. He had just under 600 yards on the season..

You put Gonzo on JSN and maybe shade Woodson over him. Or you shift Marcus Jones back into a safety position so he's in a position to come in hard on JSN.
I don't think Davis will shut down Kupp. Kupp goes in the slot a lot which is not Davis's strength. Although not the guy he once was Kupp is shifty and Davis doesn't do well against those guys. Maybe put Davis on Barner as a player he matches up well against. Seattle doesn't have the DK or Chris Mathews type where I feel he really fits.

I also like Marcus against JSN because he can match his change of direction. Maybe switch off between the two and use some corner blitzes to get Darnold seeing ghosts.

Feels a lot like 2001 honestly.

- Other team gets lauded for two weeks by the media about how amazing and incredible they are and nobody acknowledges any of their weaknesses
- Media treats the Patriots like they’re just “lucky to be here” and don’t actually deserve it, they should take their participation trophy and go home
- Other team spends the two weeks off sniffing their own farts
- Game starts and - uh oh! - the Patriots defense IS actually good and starts beating up the other team’s QB who gets a little rattled
- Patriots’ QB plays efficiently and does just enough to win

Bedard:

This is an incredibly likable team, and I think a ton of that comes from Vrabel and Drake Maye just being a polite, humble guy. Other than this being the Patriots, I think more of America would love this team.

Just heard on NBC cast "Sam Darnold, maybe the biggest redemption story in all of professional sports"

Lmao.
